A fix to our disproportionate and gerrymandered election districts is within Congress's power to change. Protect Democracy organized a major turnout of political scientists with expertise on the matter to explain how: protectdemocracy.org/work/democra...

American leadership is older today than at any other time in history.
Our new report with @newamerica.org and @protectdemocracy.org shows why that's not an accident: the rules of our electoral system favor old over young Americans.

America's winner-take-all electoral system has countless barriers for young people who want to participate in politics.
Proportional representation systems are β you guessed it β more representative.
The old age of our leaders is unique compared to the rest of the world.
We have the one of the largest age gaps between legislators and those they represent, and (by far) the largest share of representatives over 60.
Why is that?
American leadership is older today than at any other time in history.

fighting gerrymanders can seem hopeless, but there is a solution. big moment right now for people to see districting and the two-party system as inherently linked, and a relic of our archaic electoral rules. congress has the power to ban partisan gerrymandering and establish multi-member districts.
05.08.2025 15:04 β π 936 π 213 π¬ 59 π 21QUICK REMINDER that the Constitution gives Congress the power to set the rules for its own elections.
That means Congress could effectively end gerrymandering immediately by switching to multi-member districts and proportional representation.
America's winner-take-all districts make voters into resources for the parties to divide. To get a democracy that's of, by, and for the people, we need proportional representation. @rstreet.bsky.social
