The goal isn’t to be a great gamer.
It’s to be their person.
The one who shows up.
The one who cares.
The one who says:
“I see how hard you’re trying. Keep going.”

Think like a sports parent.
You don’t need to play soccer to cheer from the sidelines.
Same goes for games:
• Ask about their strategy
• Applaud their effort
• Support their growth
This is practice—just with pixels.

Let them be the teacher.
Say: “I don’t get it—can you show me?”
When your kid explains a mechanic or teaches you a move, they learn it better.
You’re building confidence and communication skills.

Learn alongside them.
If they’re stuck, look it up together.
• Google the level
• Find a walkthrough
• Watch a tutorial
You’re not just helping them solve the problem—you’re modeling how to figure things out.

Be their cheer squad.
Sit beside them. Watch them play.
Celebrate wins. Validate frustration.
They don’t need a coach.
They need to know you’re paying attention.

Ask, don’t advise.
You don’t have to know how to win. Just ask:
• “What’s your plan?”
• “What’s the hard part?”
• “How would you explain this to someone else?”
Questions like these build strategy and problem-solving skills.

You don’t need to be good at games to help your kid get better at them.

Seriously.

Even if you’ve never touched a controller—or you fall off every platform—you can still be a great gaming parent.

Next time you hear:

“This game is broken!”

Try this first.

The game probably isn’t broken.

They’re just learning how to figure it out.

✨ That’s gaming. And that’s growth.

Helping them beat the level is great.

But helping them push through frustration?
That’s the win that lasts way longer.

Problem-solving > rage quitting.

How to really help them get unstuck:

• Search with specific keywords
• Watch a walkthrough together
• Browse Reddit or GameFAQs
• Use it as a teaching moment

Is it actually a bug?

Glitches do happen.

If something won’t load, or a quest won’t trigger, try:

• Googling the issue
• Checking fan forums

It might not be their fault at all.

Is it a skill issue?

This isn’t a dig—it’s part of gaming!

Some parts just take:
• Practice
• Timing
• A deep breath

Remind them:
They’re not bad at games.
They’re just still learning.

Did they miss a clue?

Games often hide key info in dialogue or environment details.

Ask:
• Did you skip a cutscene?
• Check your quest log?
• Look around for hidden paths or triggers?

Kids say "broken" when they’re stuck.

But the issue usually falls into one of three buckets:

🎮 Skill challenge
🐞 Actual bug (yes, sometimes!)

“THIS GAME IS BROKEN!”
