After a couple of big demos outside the Canopy Hotel to keep ICE awake, now there’s what seems to be a solo noisemaker who shows up now and then to fight the good fight. I cheer them on in my jammies while hoping my neighbors don’t call the cops. This was midnight last night.

I have a rare disease and have been kept alive and well in part by the leading health care providers we are lucky to have in Minnesota. I was disappointed in the letter from state business leaders purporting to address the violence ICE is inflicting on our state. But I was shocked and heartbroken to see Mayo Clinic and Fairview and other healthcare providers sign it. The letter doesn't name ICE. It doesn't reference the death and harm ICE is inflicting. Their "solution" is calling for "peace and focused cooperation among local, state and federal leaders," which is truly offensive in its emptiness and two-sidedness. Offensive to patients and caregivers in those healthcare systems. Offensive to the memory Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Offensive to anyone affected by this ICE invasion, which is all of US.

It is one side causing the violence. It is one side causing the fear that is making people, including those with rare diseases, miss essential medical appointments. It is one side that is inflicting such harm that it is affecting the physical and mental health of thousands of children and adults in Minnesota who have experienced it firsthand and via horrifying news coverage. Now, when we need it most, our state's health care leaders could lead. They could call on the federal government to stop terrorizing our state. Instead, they basically became RFK, promoting cures that will do nothing or, worse, will cause more harm.

A rare diseases collaborative asked for help to safely transport fearful Minnesota patients to appointments. ICE is keeping patients from appointments for medical care and treatment while MN healthcare leaders sign on to empty calls for “solutions.” Sent this to Strib today.

Vance blames ‘failure of cooperation’ for chaos in Minneapolis The vice president met privately with ICE agents and business leaders before telling reporters he hoped to “take down the temperature a little bit.”

These CEOs may think this is an important and powerful statement but really it’s just echoing the two-siding, victim-blaming talking points of the Trump administration.

There was a moment during Friday’s march when someone near me said their hands were cold and at least four people turned to offer hand warmers. “Who keeps us safe and warm?” “We keep us safe and warm!”

“Love you back” arghh. Sorry for anyone who resposted. Whatever order the words are in, capitalism sucks and so does this PR statement that doesn’t mention ICE. Enraged about all of these companies but especially the health care providers. Let them know how you feel even if they have no feelings!

And they have plausible deniability: is the sign signaling “See me for free hand warmers”? Or “Haha I have hand warmers and you don’t”?
