On this day in 1902, Montagne Pelรฉe (Martinique) unleashed pyroclastic flows that killed over 28,000 people. That tragedy gripped me as a child and led me to volcanology. After more than a decade studying PDCs, Iโve received on this day my permanent faculty post at Edinburgh to continue the journey.
