One of the things that sucks about this era is having to think about the racists all the time, because they’re so boring. They have like, three tools in their toolkit, so we get to say things like “oh look, they’re using the hammer again”

I don't know the research, just my personal experience.

For me, starting the gifted program made school feel less like a prison. I didn't have to pretend I didn't know the answer. I didn't have to dumb down my vocabulary. I didn't have to hide who I was. I could speak in my own voice.

Of course, now that there's AI money to be made, that calculus gets flipped over. Now the calculus is 'we'll steal other companies' IP, betting we'll make more money from this than we'll lose from the legal costs and settlements.'

FYI The big IP companies used to waste time persecuting their own fans because of a flaw in US trademark law, which meant if they didn't 'defend' their trademarks, they lapsed.

That's not a defense of their bullying tactics, but a criticism of the legal system that required it.
