Inspiring stuff from Clara Mattei that feeds into what I was saying earlier...

In his excellent newsletter @paulconstant.com says "Good Literature Should Fit in Your Pocket" and riffs on the death of Mass Market Lit. I agree! I'm trying to create small, affordable weird books that fit in yr pocket; fast pulpy fun reads like comics.
I WAS A LIVING TORPEDO
01.03.2026 16:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We had a friend who lived in Manchester who used to see Morrissey driving round in an open-top / convertible Golf - the same car favoured by Diana Spencer. This fuelled our suspicions π
01.03.2026 16:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We saw The Smiths at the ('84?) Glastonbury Festival just as they were breaking big. A small group of us booed them LOL in the middle of a crowd that clearly adored them. We were high on hash, wine and poppers - were super gnarly with it - our booing was unappreciated. It got ugly pretty fast π
01.03.2026 16:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0"Morrisey" - yep! He didn't disappoint, 'cos me and my friends were always suspicious of him since the get-go. Radiated Seriously Insincere Self-Promo Vibes.

01.03.2026 15:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Capitalism just basically loots / sucks dry everything in its path, sadly, but I hope you're right :-) I'm not a gamer, but I love that ppl are making homebrew digital and TT games, that the DIY / Punk ethic is alive in the gaming zone as well as elsewhere :-)

01.03.2026 12:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sadly, comics / books are mostly seen as a portal for bigger revenue streams :-( And now that Disney have mined / sucked most of Marvels IP dry, they'll move on to ruin other ppl's hobbies and livlihoods. ;-)
01.03.2026 12:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Remembering I was at a signing with a couple other writers, who had both worked for old iterations of Vertigo (not the current one) and they were comparing notes on DC-Vertigo editorial's checklist on how pitches needed to have TV series hooks / potential. And this was a decade or so ago! LOL
01.03.2026 12:11 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0We did The Rituals of Infinity (sort of). Just over FIVE years ago Kek!!! Where does the time go?

01.03.2026 12:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0"could make an A5 pulp anthology magazine work" - that would be amazing. Totally in my wheelhouse. I'm not sure there's any will to do this. :-( If it's not a slab-sized 3 or 4 book blockbuster series they can get a film or netflix series out of (or some sort of game spin-off, they're not interested

It's where I like to lurk, culturally, put a new / 'modern' spin on all that wonderful stuff.
SLIM, AFFORDABLE, FAST, FUN READS FOR FELLOW WEIRDOS.
π We did one a while back - mostly about Fall Of Deadworld - talking about doing another. We're both big Moorcock / Hawkwind / classic Sci-Fan fans :-)
01.03.2026 11:50 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Now, don't get me wrong: doorstep-sized Fantasy / SF trilogies have enormous followings, but I kinda dig that whole vibe of the slim volumes put out by NEL, Mayflowers, etc in the 70s: cheap, fun, ratatat reads. Science Fantasy, cheesy pulp Horror, Weird Fict, Golden Age SF reissues...

There's another strand to all this, of course: when a sizeable chunk of mainstream media is owned by fash, their enablers or by cowardly, pocket-lining ass-kissers then it becomes increasingly important to make / distribute / own our own art, build our own networks / communities. So, yeah, GET WEIRD
