UK household expenditure on newspapers & periodicals is trending to hit zero sometime in 2030 (although obviously it won't actually hit zero, more likely bottoming out somewhere on the way)
JWβs plan to buy back Brewdog was worth just Β£30m, Β£3m less than the winning bid, and it was backed by a family office that is also one of the main backers of Modella, the owner of TGJonesβ¦ news.sky.com/story/mark-k...

"If B&Mβs problems stem from drift and poor execution of a sound strategy... fixing it should not be impossible"
Easier said than done (!), but agree with the sentiment: what Poundland has done in a few months should be testament to that. But much harder to do it without the founding Arora brothers
Sorry I didnβt mean to get at you! I agree itβs really sad for the entire print media industry - their relationship with WHS/Smith News has never been the best, but putting all their eggs in one basket was always riskyβ¦!

Not calling out this post in particular (ok, maybe the QTs), but all those people dunking on TGJones/private equity⦠when was the last time you bought something in Smiths?
Like the High Street in general, people like the βideaβ of WHSmith, but if you wonβt go there, how are they supposed to survive?

While we sit around to find out how bad exactly it all is, a bit of cheer: the best baguette of Paris competition was won by a Sri Lankan who appears to have started as a dish washer in restaurants and eventually trained as a Boulanger.

Enough distraction from politics yet?
Happy Friday!

A pint of cask beer on a pub table
3. Oh, and The Pocket's sister pub and Giles Coren's favourite (but don't let that put you off!), a couple of pints at the Southampton Arms.
Sorry they are blurry - consumed after a long day at the hands of the NHS, so that was why.

2. Can you believe the Pocket in Highbury is less than a year old? Always a well curated and well kept selection: that's a delicious pint of cask Tartarus DDH pale ale from Leeds, but also had an excellent Saison from Balance and a Cold IPA from Queer
