I knew I wanted to do a floral suit, so I cracked open my floriography book and found “flowers for an absent lover”: zinnia (I mourn your absence. Yellow: daily remembrance. Magenta: lasting affection), aster (patience), ivy (fidelity) and Indian jasmine (attachment). I like to think he’d wear this while missing Lilith but also still wanting to feel pretty. I also believe in every rococo suit he wears, his snake buddy is hiding up his sleeve; there’s lots of room in there to get comfy! The lace for his cuffs and jabot also have floral/organic designs and are inspired by needle lace from the mid 18th century.

The scales in the jacket and breeches represent how Lucifer is the snake, along with the slithery, wavy gold boarders along the jacket and waistcoat. His cane topper still holds the silhouette of the apple, but it also has a snake carving wrapped around it. The trees represent the garden of Eden, while the apple buttons, sequin apples and apple blossoms on the waistcoat and cuffs represent… you know… the apple 🍎

A ditto suit is a suit that used the same fabric for its jacket, waistcoat and breeches, so I thought a repeating apple design would be fitting. The design on his duck is inspired by rococo china and tableware, which favoured florals, heavy gilding and occasionally large blocks of colour.
