i disagree that the story doesn’t make theological sense bc we haven’t heard Hegseth’s specific crowd make this specific argument. As someone who grew up evangelical, events in the ME routinely seen through this lens. The precise theories were muddled and varied but point was always the same.

Before you share that story about how troops were told the Iran War is for "Armageddon," read this The narrative is dramatic. The sourcing is thin. And skepticism matters, especially on something this serious.

Is white evangelicalism a cult?there’s a wide variety of experiences and subcultures, some generally healthy, but imo all employ an authoritarian view of God, belief, scripture, & culture that can go awry and end up w/, say, 80% of your members supporting a bonafide authoritarian political mvt.

Except for Trump, who has combatted US efforts and actively encouraged Russian efforts.
