Labour Mayor of the Liverpool City Region. Working to make Liverpool City Region the best place to grow up, grow old and grow a business.

05.03.2025 11:33 β π 5 π 2 π¬ 2 π 1A pleasure to welcome @darrenpjones.bsky.social to the region yesterday!
Great to have a government working with us to drive investment and growth in the Liverpool City Region.
@evertonstadium.com was the perfect venue to show off the huge potential of the North Liverpool-South Sefton corridor!
Our Labour government, with Rachel Reeves as Chancellor, is smashing through the barriers to growthπΉ
The Green Book review could be transformative, helping attract more government investment into the Liverpool City Region while we work to attract more foreign investment too.
π€ One of the wonkiest and most technical changes possible.
πͺ Also: one of the most impactful and transformative changes possible.
This is could open up a world of opportunity for the North. Green Book has seen countless worthy infrastructure projects canned because of its outdated methodology.
"For those who survived and for the loved ones left behind, today is another step on a long and challenging road. But they will not face it alone."
My statement following today's sentencing π
Busy few days of important and productive meetings down in London!
We discussed how we can work together to turn our shared missions into reality. π€
π¨ BREAKING: In response to today's disruption on Merseyrail, Steve has commissioned an independent review to examine and address the failures that led to it.
Transport bosses from Merseyrail, Network Rail and Stadler will also be summoned to answer before the region's Transport Committee.
The complete cancellation of Merseyrail services today is unacceptable.
People in our region deserve better, and I wonβt stop until they get it.
The riots that took place last Summer showed the dangers of unchecked misinformation and racial hatred spread across social media.
Truth matters, and we all have a duty to uphold itβwhether on X or elsewhere.
If platforms wonβt act, itβs time we rethink where we engage.
Thanks for the nice feedback about our Bluesky report tonight. π¦

The image features a bright yellow Merseyrail train with "Batteries On-Board" branding, set against a blue sky with some clouds. Two large Β£1 coins are prominently displayed above the train. The text reads "UNLIMITED WEEKEND TRAVEL FOR JUST Β£2" in bold yellow and white lettering. At the bottom, it says "METRO MAYOR LIVERPOOL CITY REGION."
π HERE, FARE AND EVERYWHERE π
πͺ For the entire month of January, enjoy unlimited weekend travel on Merseyrail for just Β£2!
π§ And just Β£1 for kids!

π€ Working together with @seftoncouncil.bsky.social & @metromayorsteve.bsky.social we have put forward a bold plan to deliver 10,000 new homes between Kirkdale & Bootle
π This project represents the scale of ambition we have for this city

πͺ BUILDING FOR SUCCESS | We are joining forces with @lpoolcouncil.bsky.social and @seftoncouncil.bsky.social to bid for one of the government's 'New Towns.'
ποΈ Spread across Bootle, Anfield, Everton and Kirkdale, the development could see more than 10,000 homes built and wide scale regeneration.
Quite a Christmas present for the blue half of the Liverpool City Region.
Everton are part of the fabric of English football. This new era is great news for the club, fans and our wider region.
Hopefully this allows them to turn the page and look forward to a brighter 2025!
A watershed moment.
Angela Rayner, @jimmcmahon.co.uk and the government are putting local communities back in the driving seat on decision-making.
They understand that places like the Liverpool City Region thrive when weβre given the power to shape our own destiny.

It was great to join the Chancellor Rachel Reeves alongside fellow mayors (virtually) for the Mayoral Growth Mission yesterday!
We stand ready in the Liverpool City Region to be the delivery arm of national government. πͺ
Following the summer's violent disorder, I said weβd stand united and rebuildβand we did.
The reopening of Spellow Library proves that when communities pull together, anything is possible.
The power of community will always prevail. Nowhere is that more true than in Liverpool.

π INNOVATION NATION | Our region is taking part in a new Β£100m project piloting innovative methods of public service delivery.

Gutted to hear of Ron Round's passing. He was instrumental in the creation of the Combined Authority.
Ron was a true champion for Knowsley and his tireless work for its residents will not be forgotten. My thoughts are with all those who loved him.

Saddened to hear of the passing of John Tinniswood, the worldβs oldest man, at 112 years old.
A proud Scouser who witnessed over a century of change, his remarkable life leaves a legacy of inspiration for generations to come.
Rest in peace, John. β€οΈ

In just a few short months as 'Passenger in Chief', Louise Haigh moved fast and was already beginning to fix things.
Railways back under public ownership. Turbocharging public control of buses. And a real commitment to fixing the North's creaking infrastructure.
She'll be sorely missed.
π The Liverpool City Region will be a Youth Guarantee Trailblazer!

π We are now cemented as a global leader in AI for good.
π A massive congratulations to Marion Atkinson, Liam Robinson and Rahima Farah for their success at last night's #CllrAwards.
Great to see proper recognition for the Liverpool City Region leading the way nationally!
Gutted to hear of John Prescott's passing. He was a true giant of the Labour movement. He never lost that fire and was always an invaluable source of advice and good humour! Thinking of Pauline and his kids at this difficult time.
They don't make them like him any more π
I'm aware of the issues affecting Merseyrail services this morning and am in contact with both them and Network Rail to understand what measures they are taking to fix them and prevent them happening as we move into winter.

π Taking back control of buses is a major step toward delivering a London-style transport network.
π We've led the way in showing how to put the public back into public transport. It's great to see other areas being given the powers to follow our lead!
