sonic is kinda similar to pokemon in that most people have a different idea of what sonic is based on what specifically they grew up with. with pokemon it's because they made a ton of different entry points to appeal to different kids but with sonic it's because the brand is wildly incoherent

Exactly, like, portraying fat characters who eat a lot as something that's outright positive for them is something i haven't really seen much. It could totally be good, especially with how often eating is hypermoralized as soon as fat people do it.

I think i already said it but a lot of these tropes are not automatically bad on their own, usually they're just combined with far more pernicious tropes or their sheer volume betrays a societal attitude towards fat people. like it's not a crime to be fat and a good cook

idk why i have to explain this. media is far more likely to depict the sexuality of fat people as being desperate or pathetic, as self-explanatorially unwanted and embarrassing. why do you think that is

i've never heard of this series or character before but the first thing i've found on it is a reddit post of clay eating a big meal

Hopefully i've grouped the tropes into rows and collums that avoids contradictions as much as possible.

I should also add that some of these tropes are fine in isolation and are only annoying in sheer volume or in how they're portrayed. I think you can do genuinely subversive stuff with fat characters that eat a lot, it's just also extremely common and often comorbid with more pernicious tropes.

It should cover both attempts at positive representation, sexualized portrayals and bigoted/dehumanizing portrayals, so hopefully pretty universally applicable. Anything from cartoons to outright pornographic material.
