World Mental Health Day serves as a powerful reminder that there is no health without mental health.

They do not require a blow to the head or loss of consciousness to occur. The week's goal is to educate the public about the prevention, recognition, and management of concussions by providing information on symptoms and risks, and promoting safer sports and activities.

Concussion Awareness Week is Sep. 21 to 27. It is estimated that at least 1 in every 167 Canadian adults suffer a concussion each year. Concussions are a serious brain injury that can happen to anyone, anywhere, at anytime.

The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. From peacekeepers on the front lines of conflict, to community members, to students in classrooms around the world, everyone has a role to play.

The aim of the theme is to raise awareness about how we perceive the complex issue of suicide. Changing the narrative requires systemic change. It’s about shifting from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support.

More people die by suicide than in motor vehicle collisions in many provinces: it’s often the leading cause of injury death. The theme for World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) 2024-2026 is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”.

PHABC encourages everyone to continue to make it easier to support those who need help by sending the message that they are not alone and by affirming that substance use does not define them, and that their lives matter.

In 2024, fentanyl was responsible for 75 per cent of opioid-overdose deaths in Canada, which represents an increase of 32 per cent since 2016.

World Humanitarian Day | United Nations World Humanitarian Day is a global celebration of people helping people. It is intended to raise public awareness of humanitarian assistance worldwide and the people who risk their lives in order to provide it.

World Humanitarian Day is a time to honour those who step into crises to help others, & stand with the millions of people whose lives hang in the balance. In 2024 alone over 380 humanitarian workers were killed. This year the humanitarian system is stretched to its limits.
