I taught elementary school for 30 years and there were times I had students turn every writing prompt into something about Minecraft, Yu-gi-oh or Pikachu. A child hears the news of Pearl Harbor on the radio? Oh look--there's Charmander! Meh. I was glad they used paragraphs and quotation marks.

Not a contest, but I pay $24,000 a year for my spouse and myself. The thing is, I'd be willing to pay this without complaint if it was a tax that ensured universal coverage for all. Right now it just feels like medical extortion.
