Their actions over recent months had become increasingly egregious, targeting Jewish charities and statues, and encouraging acts of violence and vandalism. Their forced entrance and sabotage at an RAF base was rightly the final straw.”

In response to the news that the Metropolitan Police Service have intervened to block a protest in Swiss Cottage this Friday to prevent further serious disruption to the life of the community, Andrew Gilbert, Vice President of the Board of Deputies, said: “We are grateful to the police for taking swift action to protect our community. The right to protest is part of a free society, but so is the right to worship in peace and safety. “By deliberately holding demonstrations in close proximity to several synagogues and on Friday nights, when many Jews attend prayer services and walk to visit family and friends, IJAN have chosen to distress and intimidate the local Jewish community with outrageous and at times directly threatening conduct. We welcome the news that their activities will now be limited to areas where they will not so flagrantly disturb the peace.”

Bevis Marks, the UK’s oldest synagogue, was lit up orange last night to mark the end of the shiva, the 7-day mourning period, for Shiri, Ariel and Kfir Bibas.

The statement reads as follows: "We welcome the Government’s decision to place the entire Iranian Regime, including its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, on an enhanced tier of the new foreign influence registration scheme. Among other important aspects of today’s announcements, those working for the Iranian regime in this country will be required to register as such, or face jail. "We thank the Government for listening to the consistent warnings of British Jews about the threat the Iranian state poses to our community as well as to many Iranians who have found shelter in the UK. "The Government’s announcement of a review into the UK’s counter-terrorism framework in relation to ‘modern day state threats’ is also an important step towards fulfilling intentions made clear in Opposition relating to national security, which included the proscription of the IRGC. We look forward to hearing the review’s recommendations in due course."
