Bingley and Charlotte exist to show the flaws in both Darcy's and Elizabeth's pride/prejudice. Adaptations that add justification to Darcy and Lizzie being assholes to their friends (Bingley is foolish, Charlotte is a tragedy) are genuinely insulting.

Also adaptations that make Bingley look like a fool. The point is that he is both kind AND sensible, and Darcy is a genuinely classist asshole for thinking that Bingley needs protection from Jane.

Rather it demonstrates how toxic masculinity isolates you from community, and pursuing it will eventually kill you, leaving only a hollow trophy in your wake.

We wouldn’t have the Star Wars books we have without Carol Titelman and Lucy Wilson getting it started and keeping it running when it mattered the most in the early years.
