Poster with the workshop's title on the left: "Into the Swarm-Verse: a new R package to analyse trajectories of animals on the move". The speaker's name is indicated as 'Marina Papadopoulou' and the date/time as "Tuesday 26th of August, 2025, 1:10-2:40 PM.". On the right there is an example of a swarm space (points of different colors in 3 dimensions), the pictures of the animal groups that they represent, and the logo of the R package. At the bottom, there is the reference to the paper: "Papadopoulou M., Garnier S., & King A.J. (2024) swaRmverse: An R package for the comparative analysis of collective motion. Methods in Ecology and Evolution"
📢Coming up, workshop at #Behaviour2025 on our swaRmverse package!
🗓️Tue 26/8, 13:10–14:40
💻Theory & R practical (feel free to bring your data)
🎯Discussion on comparative analysis & metrics

Super excited to announce that my work with @joefresna.bsky.social and @lostintheswarm.bsky.social has just been published in the Swarm Intelligence journal. We show how a swarm of minimalistic robots can self-localize and construct a global coordinate system.

Rvision 0.8.0 is here! Its toolbox now includes camera calibration tools, ORB keypoint detection & matching, pyramid resampling, and much more. It also accepts GStreamer pipelines to read feeds from a wide range of cameras. More info at swarm-lab.github.io/Rvision/inde...

Lightning over a pile of scientific papers
Each week, we share research that tickled our brains at our #LightningJournalClub. Fascinating, intriguing, even outright infuriating - these papers got us buzzing. This is the Jan. 29, 2024 edition!

The left side shows two pieces of filter paper with dried slime mold on it. The right side shows one of these pieces a few days later. The slime mold has restarted its biological activity and is now a giant, bright yellow cell.
The #blob has awaken!
The dried "snot" on the left spent 3 years in the drawer. A little bit of humidity and food turned it into the sprawling yellow goo on the right :-)

Will the #blob wake up? Answer on Monday.

The "Remote - Tunnels" extension in #vscode might be the feature that will make me move all my cross-platform #rstats development away from RStudio and toward Visual Studio Code. This thing works brilliantly (so far) and is so much easier to set up than a RStudio Server. Thoughts?

ROpenCVLite 4.90.0 is now available on CRAN. It brings the latest release of OpenCV (4.9.0) and more robustness to the installation process on Windows. However, please note that this update deprecates support for R < 4.0
