Sigh.
It's never "just" the concentration-camp tattoo.
Also, that's a reminder we NEVER thought we'd have to write.

Wow! A lost short film by George Méliès from 1897 (!!) is discovered by Library of Congress archivists! It was in a box of old films donated by the great-grandson of a traveling showman who staged film screenings to astounded 19th century audiences.

You can watch it at the link.

The cover for Uncanny Magazine Issue 67, "Mushroom Mother of Us All" by Paul Lewin: In the center, an elderly Black woman has her eyes serenely closed, a brown-orange nose piercing on her right nostril and an orange line/mark on her chin. Her hair are the green leaves of trees, trunks growing out of the side of her face, and mushrooms growing through the leaves. She wears large earrings of orange, sienna, with aqua and white lines and dots. Her hands hold a bowl lined with Black faces and mushrooms growing out of the bowl. In the center of the bowl and thus the front of her chest is an orange sun surrounded by a dark pink halo like a globe. The quote reads: "Susanna was the only one among the illusionists I’ve worked with in my career whose illusions ever felt like true magic to me; she alone allowed me to tap into that wonder our audiences pay us to experience."

The universe may be hiding a fundamentally unknowable quantum secret Even given a set of possible quantum states for our cosmos, it's impossible for us to determine which one of them is correct

"The wave function of the universe is like a cosmic secret that physics itself conspires to keep."

Over on the Clock App I've been on a bit of an anti-Ai tear. One of my videos I talked about how I'm going to include a little badge, indicating that my books are AI free because more and more AI books are flooding the market and AI prompters aren't being all that upfront about labeling their work as ai because it "affects their bottom line". As someone who wants to support humans, and their work, I want to be sure that I am only reading human written books. I'm sure I'm not the only one, so I whipped up a little AI Free badge. Someone in the comments asked if I would list the file for purchase somewhere, because they wanted to use it too. I won't list it for sale any where, but I will post it for free for anyone who wishes to use it to just have it. I know I would be more likely to buy a book if I know that it is 100% human made. And if you'd like to see my actual AI rants, go check me out on TikTok

The slow death of a star seen in infrared. The star is ejecting its outer layers at a slow pace, creating what looks like an expecting bubble of gas. The material ejected by the star is appearing as orange/red here, looking like a skull (hence its name). Dozens of stars in our galaxy and background galaxies can be spotted everywhere around it (and even behind it!).

I was waiting all day for the data release of those observations, I am clearly not disappointed!🔭

This is the Cranium Nebula, a planetary nebula, as seen by the JWST with NIRCam (l) and MIRI (r). Processing this data was so fun, this plan. nebula is incredible!

An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable. From Greek kakoethes (ill-disposed), blending kakos (bad) and ethos (disposition). Roman satirist Juvenal gave us "cacoethes scribendi" - the incurable itch to write. 'nuff said.
