We also looked ahead to the Mt. Hope Recreation Center Project, which will provide a safe, vibrant hub for youth, families, and seniors to gather, showing that our community’s strength comes from both our people and the places that uplift them.

I joined our District 1 community at Mt. Hope Recreation Center to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and honor the contributions and resilience of our Latino community—especially immigrant families facing fear and misinformation in our broken immigration system.

As the daughter of immigrant parents, I know I would not be where I am today without them & the opportunities this country offers. That’s why I stood alongside community leaders & organizers at the ICE Out of SD rally, raising our voices for the dignity, safety, & rights of immigrant families.

ICE has no place in our neighborhoods, where its presence spreads fear and traumatizes families. Immigrant families are the backbone of our communities, especially in District 1—working, contributing, and raising the next generation of San Diegans.

Join me at tomorrow’s protest to help send a clear message: We want ICE out of San Diego.

Immigrants are welcome here. Every Thursday at 10 AM, local leaders, organizations, elected officials, & community members are gathering a coalition of San Diegans at the Federal Courthouse to stand in solidarity with our immigrant community.

Filipino Americans are a vibrant part of District 1, bringing rich traditions to our community. As the largest Asian American community in San Diego County, their contributions play a key role in shaping our region. This #FilipinoAmericanHistoryMonth, we honor their heritage and impact on D1.

I am excited to kick off the first-ever San Diego Climate Week at the Tijuana River Estuary, because estuaries shield our neighborhoods from flooding and naturally purify our air and water—safeguarding our communities, infrastructure, and our health. #SDCW is Oct 1-8, how are you celebrating? 🌱

I was honored to present a proclamation to City of Chula Vista Manager Maria Velarde Kachadoorian, retiring after nearly 40 years of trailblazing public service. Maria was the first woman and Latina City Manager in Chula Vista’s history, breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations.

We are committed to making sure every San Diegan receives the care and support they deserve, fighting to protect access to safe, reliable health care even as Washington tries to take it away.

We discussed strategies to advance social justice and support our immigrant neighbors amid rising ICE activity, and how the County and State can work together on upholding safety, support, and fair legal protections for everyone.

Representing District 1, home to San Diego’s largest Latino community, I appreciated meeting with Attorney General Rob Bonta to discuss the needs of our residents.

The San Diego Food Bank serves an average of 400,000 people every month, a vital effort in our region’s fight against hunger.

Strengthening this partnership will allow us to better serve Imperial Beach residents and ensure the County is a strong, consistent presence in the region.

It was a pleasure welcoming leadership from the City of Imperial Beach to discuss how the County can take a more active role in supporting South Bay, from addressing Tijuana River Valley pollution to enhancing community programs and infrastructure projects.

There is no time to waste. We will keep fighting until these funds reach our communities and finally bring some relief from the toxic gases that are making our families sick in South Bay.

Thanks to Assemblymember David Alvarez’s advocacy and securing $46 million through Prop 4 to address cross-border pollution, we now have a real opportunity to make progress. The State Water Resources Control Board must act quickly to release these funds to remove the Saturn Blvd “hot spot.”

The Tijuana River Valley pollution crisis is more than an environmental issue—it is a public health emergency, the most severe in the western hemisphere.
