I kind of forgot I had this app πŸ™„. I’ve been working on my backyard homestead. Got some trees from HomeDepot at 50% off limes, mandarins, Cara Cara, lemons, and olives.

Flashback to earlier this year: tasting the Babcock peach, and WOWβ€”it’s easily one of the best peaches I’ve ever had. So good, I’m buying four more trees. Obsessed. The only peach that even came close was one I had in France.

Water bath canning is for high-acid foods only (pH ≀ 4.6) like fruits, pickles & jams. For low-acid foods (veggies, meats, broths), use a pressure canner to safely kill bacteria. Know your method & stay safe! πŸ«™πŸ‘ #CanningTips #Preservatio

Canning jam is simple! Just fruit, sugar, lemon, and pectin. Add cinnamon or allspice for flavor. Use a jar rack to boil safely. Sealed jars are available at Walmart. I’ll be hosting demonstrations for our One Year to Homestead series to show how easy it is!

I grew up making bread. Now, I make the dough in a bread machine and bake it in the oven, or in the machine if I am short on time. I have a full-time job and a million side gigs. Most of us are so caught up in fantasy of homesteading, but it needs to be practical for us to stick to it.

Had to change my quail feed back to a local feed. They are not producing many eggs and the hatch rate is low. I was on a cheap feed which was supposed to be short term and ended up being months because it was convenient. Made the drive back to my normal feed store and bought the good stuff.

My little quail coop for quail. I never know if the price of eggs have gone up. I simply collect my eggs daily. Smaller but nutritious.

Launching classes next year for One Year to Homestead. A different topic every month to build your sustainability skills as a backyard homesteader. We will cover everything from permaculture to canning. The planner/journal is nearly done. Taken me over a year.
