Going through a breakup while polyamorous is a strange experience. On one hand I’m heartbroken and grieving, and on the other I have a wonderful partner who makes me unbelievably happy. Feeling these two emotions simultaneously is surreal.

My therapist prescribed me a weekend alone. I don’t do alone well, so I find the concept terrifying. As a compromise I decided to take myself to a concert; something I've done maybe 3 times in the last 25 years, and I didn’t even like it then.

And it is VERY tricky with my schedule. Working late M-F means I really only get weekends unless I find a fellow night owl. Google calendar is my friend 😂

It works when I don’t force it or overthink it. It also helps when everyone has a clear schedule and expectations are understood between everyone. It’s not for everyone. It does take a LOT of communication, but I find I actually appreciate my time with people more when I have a schedule.

Life is weird. I just dropped my wife off to stay overnight with her boyfriend and now I’m scrolling on a dating app while I wait for my girlfriend to come over, and all of it feels mundane.

This is something I wish I had realized when I decided to be polyamorous. I could say I was ok with the same breath that my body went into fight or flight mode. It’s not easy to get past, and I would constantly struggle with the idea that I “failed.” It takes work, but it does get better.

Inviting my girlfriend to the house because my wife is on a date is not a sentence I ever expected to feel… normal.

Was not prepared for the level of self-healing and introspection that comes with polyamory. It really faces you to confront the reasons for your emotions on a level I expect from the best therapy session.

Revisiting an anime classic that I haven’t seen in probably 28 years. The only downside of Bubblegum Crisis on blu-ray is it doesn’t have the cool spine art of the original VHS release.
