ICE is moving people faster & faster. In October, a friend was taken from his home. By the afternoon, he was in Putnam County. They said he'd be there for a couple days. Next day, we rushed there to get him paperwork for legal rep but he was already on his way to Knox Co & in Louisiana the next day.

Estefany came to the US to escape death threats due to her journalism in Colombia. Now, she's been targeted here for her journalism. She was kidnapped Wednesday morning and was being taken from Nashville to an LA detention facility the same day. This is happening to so many in middle TN right now 😭

We don't need to wonder if she was targeted for her work. This regime has shown that is what they do. They not only target & kidnap Black, brown & Indigenous people but also target those who stand up for them or report on the cruelty. Verifiers/observers are also targeted. That is what this is.

This one is hitting very hard. Estefany does incredible work, especially informing people of ICE detentions/activity. Her reporting kept people safe & put her at risk. During the winter storm she was everywhere - directing people to food/resources, spreading info in Spanish, etc. Bring her home!🖕🏼ICE

And reality of preferential treatment for anyone who comes at the behest of high-powered lobbyist just adds to the incredibly imbalanced power dynamic. It makes a material difference but also has an impact on people wanting to come participate in our local government, which I understand.

But it matters for committee comment where we've had to ask for that rule to be enforced. And of course, it's demoralizing for people new (and old) to council to show up and see that people who are often paid or have a financial interest in being there are breaking the rules without consequence.

Agreed! And I know someone else has also brought this to her attention so hopefully she rectifies this. In the past we've been told council is short-staffed but... that is not the fault of constituents. People may think it doesn't matter since the even for/against split is a rule for general comment

We are still going! Today we'll be 1) providing food to Madison Community Co-Op & the warming shelter our friends are opening up at Riverside Commons. We will also be doing food & supply distribution again at Plaza Mariachi & running a warming shelter all day at Glencliff UMC. Sign up to volunteer!

As of last night, The Remix Way has distributed 18,200 hot meals this week. It's been an absolutely enormous, all volunteer-run effort. We are exhausted but we've done it because we deeply love & care for our neighbors and want them to know they have not been abandoned or forgotten ❤️
