We've added a new resource to our Integrated Systems Project - have a look at thisΒ case study from Hounslow, where the system is being transformed to deliver a new model of integrated primary and community care for people with frailty and other complex needs.

And that's a wrap! Thanks to all who came to our 2026 Northern Ireland Spring Meeting and made it the success it was. Thanks to our partners, the Royal College of Psychiatrists Faculty of Old Age. Jan Ritchie, chair of BGS Northern Ireland, brings things to a close. #BGSconf www.bgs.org.uk/26NIS

Have you had the opportunity to see our Core20PLUS5 framework?
This framework is based on similar ones from NHS England. It aims to help identify older people who have unequal access to and experience of healthcare, and to target action to counter that inequality. Click to view: buff.ly/TiIT0lU
At @gerisoc.bsky.social we've been trying to make sense of the shift to neighbourhood health and what it means for our members and older people. Hopefully this will help those trying to navigate this new world...

30.01.2026 10:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hi @seatsixtyone.bsky.social - we're looking at getting the train from London to Stockholm. You advise PM train from London, overnight in Brussels & on to Hamburg & overnight train from there. Any reason why an AM train from London & to Hamburg in 1 day with sleeper that night wouldn't work?

Great to have stayed on in Nottingham for the @gerisoc.bsky.social #G4J #bgsconf. Fab to see so many people here and great talks. Really enjoying this one on polypharmacy from @henriatric.bsky.social (who also has a great bluesky handle).
15.11.2025 11:56 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Agreed. I've seen a couple of things with video games experts saying that it's the one thing they won't let their kids anywhere near.
06.11.2025 11:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I've just spent 2 weeks in NZ during which I said, more than once, that it actually doesn't rain very much in London and it rains more in Auckland. I stand by both of these statements but, my fellow Londoners, I am sorry, I think this weather is my fault. π§οΈ

10.07.2025 10:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I really enjoyed this piece from a registrar about conducting citizenship ceremonies. I remember my own ceremony very well and, as luck would have it, had the same registrar that had officiated at my wedding a couple of years earlier.

Wandered around Brentford yesterday afternoon and was struck by what must be a vast amount of money being put into developments plus new shops and restaurants.
Southall much better connected with the Elizabeth Line but very few new shops/restaurants alongside development.
Yes, my son goes to lessons outside of school but I understand that that's relatively unusual in our community and many kids don't get a chance to learn until they have lessons at school. Also, it's hard to get into lessons - we really struggled to find availability.
04.04.2025 16:08 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't know anything about the mechanics of it but there are several companies that offer installation of a temporary pool and instructors etc. It's obviously not as big as a 25m pool - I think they're typically 10m long. 'Pop up' was maybe not completely accurate.
04.04.2025 16:06 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Our school is looking at installing a pop-up pool for a term or so which would allow daily lessons and smaller groups to learn and possibly other year groups to have lessons. Hopefully we'll see an improvement. 3/3
03.04.2025 20:21 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Again, not sure if it's standard but rates of kids actually being able to swim 25m are not great, possibly because not enough lessons, short lessons, 30 kids trying to learn at once etc. And schools typically don't have pools so there's a round trip to a local leisure centre. 2/3
03.04.2025 20:21 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I'm not 'in education' but I'm the chair of governors at my son's school. Yes, it is in the curriculum, kids are supposed to be able to swim 25m by the time they leave primary. Not sure if it's standard but at our school year 4s go to lessons weekly for 1.5 terms (2 classes, 1.5 terms per class) 1/3
