24.01.2025 22:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Went to Tim Hortons for the first time in a century and they donβt have light cream cheese anymore? I had to get full fat? Who am I? The King?
09.01.2025 13:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I saw a lot more, but my phone was dying so Iβll need to put my annual pass to good use and go again. Some really great stuff in the Pacita Abad special execution, a lot more from the indigenous art section, and more. Thanks if you scrolled down this far. Go see the AGO with your eyeballs if you can
25.11.2024 18:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A sculpture made of white wood. It is a picnic table, but large branches of wood protrude from it at many angles, all carved from the same pieces of wood that make up the table itself.
In the sculpture centre, where my last photo is.

A painting of a lake surrounded in all sides by mountains. The mountains further in the background is covered in snow. A single pine trees emerges from the rocks in the foreground.
A painting of mountains. The 2 largest peaks have snow covering them. A wavy sea is seen in the foreground.
2 of my fave Group of Sevens.
J.E.H MacDonald - Lake OβHara (1930)
Lawren S. Harris - South Shore, Bylot Island (c. 1931)
A painting, looking over the Don Valley from the prince edward viaduct, in Toronto. You can see the DVP, the river, and a few buildings poking out from the trees on the other side of the valley. On the right you can see some people standing on the bridge. A man holds a child, lifting him up so the child can peek down over the ledge.
One of my favourite pieces of Toronto art. Cool seeing what that view was like in 1972, without a lot of Torontoβs current tallness. And a viaduct without the Veil.
William Kurelek - Don Valley on a Grey Day (1972)
According to the plaque, this artist βfinds low-resolution images on the internet and prints them at a large scale.β love it.
Thomas Ruff - jpeg gs02 (2007)
A large, 2-3 metre tall highway sign in the middle of an art gallery. The sign says βEntering city of Vancouverβ 2 spotlights attached to the top of the sign illuminate it.
The centre of this space- Light Years: The Paul Lind Gift. Go see it when you go. Lots of weird, untraditional Canadiana kinda stuff.
Ron Terada - Entering City of Vancouver (2002)
A painting. A recreation of a famous scene from The Wizard of oz, where Dorothyβs neighbours all come to check on her at the end of the movie, after she has returned from Oz. Except in this interpretation, instead of Dorothy, it is the artist in bed under a Hudsonβs bay point blanket. One of the men pictured in the doorway is Louis Riel. There is a picture of Xena, Warrior Princess on the wall.
I love this one so much.
Rosalie Favell - I awoke to find my spirit had returned (2018)
An abstract painting in a simple gold frame. Hundreds of small rectangles, all different shades of green overlap to broadly resemble a forest
This one is so good I couldnβt focus on making the photo straight.
Kazuo Nakamura - Northern Forest (1954)
Landscape painting of Venice. In the foreground there are many people in the walking through the plaza. In the mid-ground there are also many shops with tall masts in the harbour. The background is a large clear sky with just a few small clouds. The left side features an ornate building with large arches and balconies.
This painting blew my mind. Thought it was a photo. Just incredibly detailed. The clothing, the buildings, the ships. Just go to the AGO and see it with your eyeballs.
Canaletto - The Bacino di San Marco, from the Piazzetta (c. 1735)
Excerpt from a website describing the painting βThe Guestβ by Florence Carlyle
A painting - the guest by Florence Carlyle. Two women, one seated, one standing, looking at each other. The seated woman is looking at the standing woman, pulling on her necklace. The standing woman is leaning against a railing. She faces the audience, head tilted, wearing a white gown and hat. Beside them is a table with a plate and jug of water. The canals of Venice are behind the standing woman.
An excerpt from a Wikipedia article describing the last 20 years of Florence Carlyle and Juliet Hastingβs life, together in a cottage in England
A meme. A close up of a man with sunglasses on. The caption is βoh my god, they were roommatesβ
Side note from googling around about Florence Carlyle - she was (probably) hella gay.
25.11.2024 06:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A painting in a gold coloured wooden frame. The painting is of a woman in a long black gown. She has her red hair tied up in a bun. She is looking at and holding a large wooden bowl. She stands beside a chair and in front of a cabinet covered in books and dishes. There are many small paintings on the wall in the background. There is one very large painting in the background - it is The Tiff.
I was amazed at how many paintings of paintings there were. Love an artist flexing like that. Carlyle put one of her paintings (the last one I posted, The Tiff) in this one. Badass.
Florence Carlyle - The Studio
A painting of 2 people. In the foreground is a woman in a white gown with a floral pattern and a matching flower in her hair. She is looking down at her hand. She is at the table with a man, in the background. His head is turned away from her, and his hand is covering his face. A green vase is on the table. An open window with white curtains is in the background, looking out on a lawn.
This painter is from Galt - a town Iβd never been to until I got a job there a year ago. Now Iβm there twice a week. I could feel the awkwardness between the two of them here, 121 years later.
Florence Carlyle - The Tiff
A girl walked by while I was looking at this one and said βis that Chappell Roan?!β
Arthur Hughes - The Lady with the Lilacs.
A painting of a field with dark storm clouds, in an ornate gold frame
