In their third segment, they focus on mink and spoke with our Executive Director, Bonnie Dell, about what WRSOS sees on the front lines of wildlife rescue and education in Saskatchewan.

Many Canadians are surprised to learn which species are still legally farmed for fur in Canada, & mink are one of them. The Fur-Bearers’ Who’s Who on Fur Farms blog series aims to change that by highlighting who these animals really are, the realities of confinement, & what the public should know.

This is what successful coexistence looks like: people coming together, watching out for wildlife, and taking thoughtful, compassionate action. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who called, cared, checked in, and made this rescue possible.

On Monday, that care and patience paid off. A local resident went to check on the goose, found it safely inside the cage, and was able to secure it. Thanks to their quick action, the goose was transported and is now in the care of the Animal Clinic of Regina.

With no local volunteers in the area, community members stepped up. They placed a straw-filled cage along the shoreline to provide shelter, made sure food was available daily, and even set up a simple rope system so anyone passing by could safely close the door if the goose entered.

For months, our WildLine received call after call about a lone goose with a wing injury, left behind when the rest of the flock migrated in the fall. It truly felt like the whole town was looking out for this one bird.

If you ever come across a bat on the ground or exposed during cold weather, don’t lift or warm it yourself. Call our provincial WildLine at 306-242-7177, and we’ll guide you through what to do next.

At this time of year, bats can’t be released back into the wild. Once winter sets in, they must come into care so they can be safely overwintered in hibernation.

A thoughtful passerby covered the bat with a glove and left a clear warning note so no one would disturb it until help arrived — a simple act of kindness that made a big difference.

Last week, someone in downtown Saskatoon noticed a tiny bat struggling in the cold outside City Hall. With temperatures dropping and snow on the ground, this little one was shivering and unable to cope with the weather.
