Zheng(猙) is a Chinese #yaoguai (#yokai ) recorded in ancient #mythology book Shanhaijing. It emerges from Mount Zhang'e, resembles a red leopard but has five tails and one horn, and makes a sound like striking stone.

🎨《清彩繪全本西遊記》, by an Unknown Artist of the Qing Dynasty 《酉陽雜俎》元和中，蘇湛遊蓬鵲山，裹糧鉆火，境無遺跬。忽謂妻曰：「我行山中，睹倒崖有光鏡，必靈境也。明日將投之，今與卿訣。」妻子號泣，止之不得。及明遂行，妻子領奴婢潛隨之。入山數十裏，遙望巖有白光，圓明徑丈，蘇遂逼之。纔及其光，長叫一聲，妻兒遽前救之，身如蠒矣。有蜘蛛黑色，大如鈷䥈，走集巖下。奴以利刀決其網，方斷，蘇已脰陷而死。妻乃積柴燒其崖，臭滿一山中。相傳裴旻山行，有山蜘蛛垂絲如疋布，將及旻。旻引弓射殺之，大如車輪。因斷其絲數尺收之。部下有金創者，剪方寸貼之，血立止也。

Aside from Journey to the West, giant mountain spiders(山蜘蛛) appear in many Chinese folktales.
According to legend, there was a fierce man named Fei Min who was walking in the mountains when he encountered a mountain spider with threads that hung down like a large piece of cloth. 1/2
