i say this to my students a lot and am always surprised when they find it discouraging rather than exciting. no one cares as much as you do whether you write that book! you can write it however you want!

There's also the fact that Rowling has been fairly explicit that the money she earns through Harry Potter she's putting into anti-trans lobbying efforts.

There's a difference, IMHO, between an artist with a shitty private life, and an artist using their money to fund regressive social change.

My queer little mullet is quickly going from "quirky and fun" territory to "drowned rat who hails from the sewers" territory because my haircut got rescheduled twice. But two separate people complimented me today, so maybe drowned sewer rat is en vogue.

And you may ask, "Well, is it a stick that's hot?" Only if you use it wrong enough!

I love writing for the construction industry because we have highly technical terms like "hot stick".
