California Redistricting Town Hall Hosted by Indivisible South Bay LA · Indivisible/Swing Left South Bay LA Join us virtually for a discussion with Asm. Al Muratsuchi (AD66) about California's proposed congressional redistricting, as Gov. Newsom's answer to the Trump/Abbott redistricting fight in Texas which threatens the integrity of all 50 states' congressional delegations. Gov. Newsom has asked the CA state legislature to have a bill approved by both chambers and on his desk for signature into law by Aug. 22, the end of the first week back in session after the summer recess. The goal is to hold a special election on Nov. 4, 2025, for CA voters to authorize this emergency plan to redistrict CA's congressional map. It is a temporary measure mid-decade in order to save Congress as a coequal branch of government under the U. S. Constitution. Learn about the process to: draw the new congressional map; craft the bill's language; and get ballots into voters' hands in a compressed timeframe. Asm. Muratsuchi will enlighten us on the process and will gladly answer any questions from participants about the legislation and the Golden State's leadership in the fight to preserve American democracy.
