Sarah Batchu, Council District
2, Manhattan (Open Seat), Ranked Choice #1
Sarah Batchu, who has experience as a non-profit executive in housing
and health care, and in City Hall, is running for the open seat in this Lower East Side district currently held by Carlina Rivera, who is term-limited. A regular straphanger and cyclist, Ms. Batchu will support expanding the district's network of protected bike lanes, and fight to improve bus service and subway station accessibility. She wants to make the Avenue B Open Street permanent, and will push for improved access to the East River waterfront. She'll work to regulate delivery app companies to require that they put safety before speed and profits and carry liability insurance on behalf of workers. Ms. Batchu will also advocate to expand the city's trash containerization pilot to the Lower East Side.
Excited and grateful to be ranked #1 by @streetspac.org!

Image from NY10 Neighbors’ Instagram post yesterday of the candidates for City Council District 2, with their pictures and brief explanations of the rankings. Sarah’s name is in green and has a checkmark, with the text “Supports a permanent ceasefire; participated in a Jews for Racial & Economic Justice action.”
Andrea Gordillo and Harvey Epstein’s names are in yellow. Anthony Weiner’s name is in red. Allie Ryan has “no public statements about Palestine.”

Honored to be the #1 choice by NY10 Neighbors, a multiracial, multifaith coalition. As a Jewish woman, I’m proud to support a permanent ceasefire & be the only candidate for this seat to say so, while calling for the hostages’ return. I stand for human rights & an end to violence across the world.

A quote from Suraj Patel:
“The people who created our housing scarcity, cost and quality of life issues cannot be counted on to go back to office to fix it. The East Side has been hungry for a new generation of leaders who have the energy and ideas to move our city forward. Sarah Batchu is one of those new leaders with the courage to say yes instead of reflexively say no. I’m proud to endorse her and she will make an outstanding Council Member.”
