I'd be demanding a long list of about 5,000 things that would essentially reshape the entire Republic, but sometimes we're forced to behave like Lincoln instead of Thaddeus Stevens unfortunately.

Americans either do not understand that the stakes are existential, or do not believe they are yet.

I agree they should be demanding more. But I think this whole fight is showing exactly how the Republican Party operates and what they value to people who aren't in the know.

They also don't want the ACA subsidies to expire because that hits their constituents in the wallet almost immediately. There's no way they end up winning this and they know that.

They're scrambling and don't appear to be able to make a decision. Circumstance will make the decision for them.

Congressional Republicans are trapped between appearing weak to their savage lunatic President by buckling in the face of Democratic pressure, or reaping the whirlwind that will come for them if they decide to kill the filibuster.

How about the next time Trump tries to tell the US military to blow up a random boat in the Atlantic they disobey the order?

If they take a position on what is true that might alienate people who would stop reading/watching if euphemisms like “unsupported” aren’t used to describe what are obvious lies coming out of the Administration.

They think the truth sounds too crazy and partisan to admit aloud.

It’s because the mainstream American press/cable news both refuse to take a position on what is true, and instead funnel all political reporting through a lens of competing Democratic and Republican perspectives regardless of whether one of those perspectives is a complete fabrication.

Some things simply are *not* true and do not need to be treated as a competition between perspectives. Especially when one of those perspectives is a lie someone has obviously pulled out of their ass at a fucking press conference.

Look. Invading our own country is about as straightforward a case as you can have for impeachment. The GOP abandoning the Constitution is kind of the only story there is and it gets no coverage.
