It feels like there was a time when Favs would have been warning about candidates like Platner but he’s been too sucked into how popular being “anti-establishment” is online.

It’s bad that that the press coverage is framed “Democrats are willing to overthrow a little antisemitic footsie” because it’s clear that Platner is their favorite special little boy.

It’s wild that his best buds at Pod Save America or others can’t at least gently push that, hey, you could have handled that better, would you like to clarify or, I don’t know, apologize at all?

And Kat entered the race with a “Dems are willing to throw trans people under the bus” when she was challenging an incumbent with one of the best records on trans rights in Congress. Kat is also a liar or at least too willing to misrepresent Dems.

I only included her because they are both bombarding me with ads about how terrible Democrats are. I’m in Ohio. These are effectively damaging to Sherrod Brown in a race we need for the Senate.

I don’t question her dedication to the cause that was being protested but I also know the campaign viewed that as a content opportunity. Same with the TV debate when she kept looking directly into the camera. She was concerned with the clips when she had an opportunity to speak to her voters.

If you don’t push legislation or work to form relationships with your colleagues in Congress to advance legislation or support and reflect the actual concerns of your constituents and not just your online followers, you shouldn’t be in Congress.

The thing is she’s not running to be an activist but also seems to think that’s the job. We’ve had similar reps who got elected and continued to think that was still the job. It’s a big part of why Cori Bush lost her primary.

This is kind of at the core of how he so quickly got Bernie’s support. It’s his central idea that the *real* enemy is the Democratic establishment (who are frankly the only adults in the room who care how things work).

Both Platner and Kat Abu seem completely disinterested in learning even the basics of the offices they seek. They’ve latched on to the meme that we simply need a “fighter” while they both run national fundraising ads that hamper our ability to get a “majority” …

We really should have outgrown “I want to elect a political outsider, by which I mean a naive idiot who refuses to learn how anything works” by now.

this has always been a sticking point, the general "fuck you" attitude from Platner, he was not in a hurry to get rid of it, nor when he did did he try to make amends or show character, it was just "fine! here's the new tattoo now shut up!" which doesn't reassure me

This was at the core of it for me. The response was such a failure of character that showed unfitness for this office. It was a very manly man “never back down, never apologize” moment that was frankly very much like Trump.

The GOP of old understood that its propaganda networks like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh were a tool. Now they have a generation that just lives in that ecosystem every day and thinks it’s real life. They don’t understand why they can’t make Trump broadly popular.

Oh for sure, but it’s usually safe congressional seats catching an incumbent napping. That was Justice Dems. That’s pretty much what David Hogg has announced he’s going to do, because they all found that swinging seats is actually hard work.

What happens if we have a 51-49 majority in the Senate and the three votes we have to wonder about are Bernie and two candidates he backed? Will it somehow still be about “The Establishment”?

I was a loyal “friend of the pod” and I would probably spit in any of their faces now if I saw them on the street. They care about their brand more than the country.

It’s mostly for the PSA brand, I think. They’ve always wanted to be kingmakers and complained constantly that Biden didn’t come on the pod before also building their brand being the faces of demanding he drop out after the debate.

Jon Favreau, as a speechwriter who loves to personally take credit for electing Obama, knows there is no really good polls in Maine but is declaring that the voters have spoken already.

Fetterman was mayor of a Pittsburgh suburb for 12 years and Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania at least. His 2016 backing of Bernie made him a darling of the left, who were determined to sink Conor Lamb. This one is much weirder.

We do need more young people in politics, and we also need them to not be opportunistic grifters. So far, the young people aren’t holding up that end.
