❗On Friday evening, the CAJ learned that journalist Rachel Gilmore had recently been approached in public by individuals linked to, or implicated in, an investigation she had written, and was published by The Tyee that focused on white nationalists.

The reviews used to justify this excluded nearly 97% of all studies from inclusion in their analysis. This is an absolutely obscene hatchet job by the NHS specifically created to eliminate access to hormones for trans youth.

America's fascist right has pulled a 180 and is selling the idea that expensive gasoline is a good thing. Americans have failed a lot of intelligence tests in the last decade. This is another one.

Democracy | Women Are Supposed to Be Better Than This Donna Ladd criticizes Kristi Noem, Pam Bondi and Ghislaine Maxwell as examples of women who have held other women back through action and inaction.

OPINION: "Kristi, Pam and Ghislaine are not the only horrific women supporting the system of misogyny and abuse of power with their silence, of course," Donna Ladd writes.

If hormones, or puberty blockers, were so dangerous, nobody would be allowed them.

That some people are and that trans kids can even, notionally at least, stay on them if already prescribed, tells you all you need to know.

Did you know that Kemi Badenoch is so obsessed with trans people you can literally see it coming off her?

Urgh, waking up news the Ian Paisley Jnr is setting up a Turning Point in NI and Erika Kirk is coming over for it.

Another woman was murdered by a man this weekend. I doubt they'll have anything to say about that.

I am very grateful we will, eventually, still have trains in Glasgow though it seems. πŸ™

So I view last night as a preview of Scotland without journalism. That day is coming. And I say that having worked here for nearly 24 years now.

Follow-up to yesterday: Herald/Glasgow Times had a live blog last night. But others didn't. And of course not: Reach (Record/GL Live) has cut so often most of their papers have no dedicated reporters; STV keeps cutting; BBC doesn't put much online effort in; and the public expect us to work for free

There have been significant ones over the years, Glasgow School of Art, twice, being the main city centre one.

I asked about insulation at a past place and they said it couldn't be done because the gap between inner walls and stone goes from the ground up. Scottish tenements need billions of work to help them last another century and nobody has money for that. There isn't even ££ to remove trees from roofs.

09.03.2026 07:22 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Armchair comment here but I wonder if it is the nature of these buildings. Cameron House had "hidden voids" that allowed that fire to spread. Tenements have empty space between flats and the stone exterior. So, space for flames to go straight up?

09.03.2026 06:42 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Scotland doesn't have the billions to upgrade buildings, or the billion probably needed to update the fire service. We don't seem to have the money for anything that would allow planning and prevention.

But hey, at least Glasgow has it's "Avenues Project"? *Grumbles in Canadian*

08.03.2026 23:34 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm not sure the fire service "let" anything here. Given the old buildings and what, from experience, is hidden in them, the fires could spread in strange and terrifying directions, and firefighter safety would also have to come first.

08.03.2026 23:24 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is hundreds of millions of pounds underfunded at the moment so they are doing the best they can without the best govt backing.

This is no longer about saving the corner building. It's lost. All the SFRS can do is try to prevent what would be a catastrophic spread to Glasgow Central Station.

LIVE updates from Glasgow's Union Street as multiple buildings collapse The fire took hold on Union Street this afternoon, before speading to Gordon Street. Glasgow Central is closed and a nearby hotel has been evacuated.

There's something deeply obscene and broken about the fact that Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth are bombing elementary schools in an illegal war of aggression, and there's still a sense among the opposition that it has to be explained in terms of gas prices in order to get American voters to care.

Given they frequently describe allies as enemies now, they really could invade anyone next. I don't assume Canada, Greenland or various other countries are safe.
