A book open to a page with text about William Caslon, a printer and font creator. The text is actually in Centaur, which was created by Bruce Rogers. This is from Rogers' book about creating Centaur, actually.

Let's talk about books and the public trust.

Something that is easy to forget, in these days of barcode-scanning / auto-adjust pricing on third-party platforms for pennies plus shipping:

Booksellers are not merely people who sell some popular books in a competitive market.

I like how full text search of every book and human thought ever was a SOLVED PROBLEM in 2001, and now dicks at search engines and my own phone โ€“ a piece of silicon faster to respond than God was ever imagined in scripture โ€“ prevent it from working, _as a retroactive infantilizing design choice_.

If you've ever been curious what an accessible version of a see-saw is, here's one. The playground also has a see-saw analog where multiple users can walk, or roll, onto a platform on swings, sit on padded benches, and use their weight to make it bounce up and down on alternating sides.

Pan-African Futurism by Reginold Royston - Paper Scholarship is a powerful tool for changing how people think, plan, and govern. By giving voice to bright minds and bold ideas, we seek to foster understanding and drive progressive change.

My new book argues technology needs an ethos: In Africa and Ghana that ethos is Pan-African Futurism. The product of over 10 years of on-the-ground and digital research with tech developers and Ghana's digital diaspora โ€”ย www.ucpress.edu/books/pan-af...

Bluesky Is Clearly Not a Johnny Cash Fan A user was banned for making a Johnny Cash reference. Where's the dividing line between serious threat and jokey pop culture reference?

Bluesky says it suspended author Sarah Kendzior because she was "expressing a desire to shoot the author of an article."

But there's more to the story:

I'm asking my first-years to do their own manual markup of PDFs (using Preview or Adobe Reader or who cares).

This is new so I didn't bring expectations, and markup is new for some anyway. So far, seeing uniqueness that looks authentic. I think they're reading/engaging for content. I think.

Our campus librarians tend to have a "hive mind," meaning they often hash things out in meetings and show a somewhat unified front. But they're NOT of one mind on intrusion in the databases. #AI is disrupting #InfoLit at the core, I think.

We don't have years for ACRL to figure this out.

Obama-esque can't help us now. That ship sailed. We heard Actual Obama over the past several weeks. It may have been a tactical error for 2026-2028 to remind us of how good he was at it.

The pretenders need a new shtickโ€”and fast.
