Mamdani is playing the game. I personally dislike that our government works this way, but I'd rather have the Dems doing this than ineffectual finger-wagging and chasing after voters who hate them on principle.

That's really the best word for it. I've been disappointed in some of his decisions, but it's clear that he has a strategy. In an age when every so-called "Democrat" mostly follows the orders of lobbyists, it's novel to see one following their own plan.
