One of two movies I’ve ever walked out of. Felt queasy watching, which I think was the point? Didn’t matter.

7-3??!! Every time I’m ready to throw in the towel, they respond.

Last I checked we were up 3-0. Now, even if we win, we’ve already lost.

Hope has dimmed.

It worked!! Thank you!

We have Tide here. Just bought it. I’ll give it the ol’ college try. Thank you!

You can do it! We believe in you, Pat!

Pinot Noir, Giammati assured me, but did he ever spill any on his favorite light-colored pullover? It’s enough to make me a Merlot man from here on.

My countenance has darkened upon the discovery that a drop of red wine consumed during tonight’s movie spilled onto my favorite, light-colored pullover. That stain isn’t coming out. We had a great run, pullover, but it was wine that took us down. And the wine wasn’t even all that good.

This is the β€œPop” channel, so it’s top artists (people even *I’ve* heard of). Some of the videos dare to [gasp!] tell stories, and I find myself enjoying them. Give me an hour and I’ll be bored, but until then…

Never had cable and used to enjoy being at relatives’ places or hotels where I could scroll cable channels. In the streaming era, I don’t really even know HOW to watch TV, but at an Air BnB, I’ve selected β€œMusic Videos” and it’s like I’m 13 again. Could watch for hours. Are music videos good again?

Merrily We Roll Along (2025) Franklin Shepard is a talented Broadway composer who abandons his theater career and all his friends in New York in order to produce films in Los Angeles. The story begins at the height of his Hollywo...

I’m a fan of the earlier cast recording but had never seen the play until today. I was pretty bowled over by the performers. And while Linklater’s version will be fun to watch someday, it won’t have one of the things that sets this filmed performance apart: raucous applause after some of the songs.

It's a tough word to spell, but if you're going to put it in huge type in a headline, you need to get it right.

Yup. I barely made it in time.

If you ever want to borrow my Blu, just say the word. It's a rare film I'm happy to proselytize for. First saw it on Kanopy, but I no longer have full access to that platform and don't know if it's still available there.

#letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched Very happy to be in the pro camp - very pro - on the latest Verbinski. As for the latest Franco, well, one day I imagine I'll see a movie of his I like. He's 0 for 3 with me so far, although the other two came closer than DREAMS to favorability with me.

#nw Not an exaggeration to say this movie changed my life. So glad I bought the Blu-ray and watched the extras, which have galvanized me anew. Beautiful and mind-expanding.

(But the β€œwhy” of the lack of media coverage as presented in that article is, I think, correct. And that’s even *more* sickening.)

05.03.2026 11:49 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Look, you don’t even have to buy into the β€œwhy” of the lack of media coverage as presented in the linked article. The bombing itself - even if accidental, *certainly* if in any way intentional - is so heinous that, if we’re responsible, we should hang our heads in shame, apologize, and end the war.

05.03.2026 11:47 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The term β€œoutrageous” has lost all salience, but this incident - and the subsequent lack of coverage - fits the term. As I told friends upon hearing of it, if we did this we should end this operation immediately. But first someone would have to admit that we were responsible. And no one will.

I wish I could do this. (Also: I wish I took the train more often. Sounds restful.)

Is this a lingering LA LA LAND effect?

That's a big miss, Pat. :)

Thinking about that β€œCome to Dubai” ad that my local arthouse has been playing in front of features the last several months.

I don't always wade into Thomas Edsall's articles, but I couldn't resist today's look at JD Vance and the enemies of classic liberalism (my characterization, but I don't think those guys would object). The conclusion is ... well, just read it. You'll see. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/03/o...

You ever watch a movie you’ve heard about for years and pictured in your head and then, during the opening credits, you realize it’s *nothing like* what you’d imagined? I have just started Fellini’s JULIET OF THE SPIRITS.
