ICE murdered someone in Chicago yesterday. It seems the news cycle has moved on from the federal takeover stuff, but it’s very much still happening & escalating.

Legacy media and cable news reduced Trump's aggression against Chicago to a question of whether troops would be sent immediately. When he said he was taking his fascist military spectacle elsewhere, those media players declared the situation over—while waves of federal agents attack our neighbors.

You probably failed at "building bridges" if millions of people think that your life's work was destructive and terrible and if your supporters have to threaten people to keep them quiet about said legacy.

Last night, about 60 Chicago activists and organizers gathered to discuss Trump's threatened military occupation of our city. Our convo centered around a worksheet that some friends and I put together this week—a tool that can help us build and strengthen local networks of support and protection.

I want a politics that widens the circle to include everyone, not one that shrinks the circle by throwing *undesirables* under the bus. I think this is basic. I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

I represented workers who suffered excruciatingly and died from asbestosis and mesothelioma, including school janitors who contracted it from working in schools that had asbestos in the ceilings.

This is yet another level of cruel and deliberate consignment of workers to suffering and death.
