Of course young people should pursue interests and opportunities!
But if literally if every other opportunity comes before their child's spiritual formation, then it should be no surprise when those are the priorities that shape the rest of their lives.
I'm often tempted to quote to parents "What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?"

Only fruit tree cursed by Jesus.
But was it because he wanted figs So Bad?
Maybe he loves figs.
I miss the smell of cigarettes. Everything smells like pot now.

I believe they actually switched dioceses out of Upper Midwest!
Weird things you can do with non-geographic dioceses.
I might be one of the only people who hears Jessie Jackson's voice when I read this book.

Who is guarding the child care centers from federal agents? In the Summit Hill neighborhood, it's elders from St. John's Episcopal Church. It's aunty and grandma. Because Jesus would do it. www.twincities.com/2026/02/06/t...

Living our values is how journalists build trust with our public. Thatβs how we remind everyone, including those who want to take away basic rights, how necessary a fiercely independent journalism is to a healthy democratic society. Free people = free press. (10)

Thank you! It was the most emotional sermon to write and I'm thankful to have been able to speak those truths surrounded by the wonderful people at All Saints Northfield.

The First Amendment recognizes the press as holding a distinct and protected role in our democracy. In America, we do not arrest journalists for doing their jobs. The Minnesota journalism community stands united in defense of press freedom and the essential role reporting plays in holding power to account.β

This is awful, but spraying her with apple cider vinegar?
Like did he think "This works when my cat does something I don't like. Maybe it will work on a congressperson."
The Episcopal Church in MN and the church where I work doing what we can, by the grace of God.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call βsymbolic compliance.β
Thatβs when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
Hahaha can you imagine how insufferable weβd be if the People of Minnesota won the Nobel peace prize

Same but from the vantage of the altar
We had close to 250 people at our interfaith vigil which is about 100 more than we can comfortably fit. Folks were packed into pews, standing in the narthex, listening on in the parish hall, and sitting on folded chairs in the aisles. It was beautiful, but Iβm still so upset we had need to gather. π―οΈ
25.01.2026 03:47 β π 187 π 21 π¬ 1 π 2Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump β 3 in House & 20 in Senate). Thatβs it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.

How many Minnesotans need to die before they leave?
ICE needs to end this surge of agents now. It was clear two and a half weeks ago. It is especially clear now. Get out of Minnesota.
And, Lord, please, somehow, turn their guns into plough shares. And turn their hearts into flesh. Please.

and ICE agents are getting told that those rights don't exist.

According to Bishop Andrew Waldo, who was a priest colleague of mine in the Episcopal Diocese of MN and is now retired there, this terrorized man, ChongLy Thao, is a cousin of one of the priests at the Hmong-majority Episcopal congregation in the Twin Cities. Oh, and Thao is indeed a U.S. citizen. βοΈ
