Yes, but now I want the Brave and the Bold team-up of The Flash and The Fugs...

The Robbins Cap pages where the Cobra loses his shit while the Viper goes down in flames is straight up one of my favorite comics sequences of all time.

If Paula had taken that producing gig instead of staying with Larry it would have worked.

Extra bonus: it's the men's room at Gazarri's!

Yeah, I believe that was John Sayles' main contribution as (uncredited) script -doctor.

Richard Price's run on "Legion" was so classic...

Mr. Miracle #22? It's actually good. Dunno why he disavowed it...

But by immersing the reader in the Bad Shit, it was much more illuminating to Logan's character than just connecting continuity dots ("then James Hudson got the Adamantium formula from Lord Dark Wind...")

BWS' Weapon X was a great judo trick in that it really didn't tell you anything about his past that you didn't already know (the program was Bad Shit, possibly coerced?). (1/2)

Agreed 1000%. He was the supporting character you WANTED to see more of.

Haven't thought of this in years until just now, but I guess Po Folks did the same thing CB just did 20 years ago or so when they (lamely) tried to rebrand themselves as "Folks" and go "upscale." (Like CBS cancelling Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres...)

...and he isn't wrong about any of it, but it's not any worse than any other Marvel comic of the day, and it's still a pretty solid Spidey issue. The article is kind of an interesting peek behind the curtain, but kind of a nothingburger as far as compromised artistic visions go (IMO).

Writer Jan Strnad wrote a post-mortem article on this issue in the Comics Journal called "My Brilliant Career at Marvel" where he complained about all of the gratuitous edits in the script (by Tom DeFalco, but following the Jim Shooter playbook)...

Giancarlo Esposito as Buggin-Out in Do the Right Thing. A few years later, he killed it as the independent journalist in Bob Roberts, and I was knocked out when I realized he was the same guy. I've followed him ever since, and I'm thrilled that he's getting the recognition he deserves.

I often think about how the comics in the Edgar Church "Mile High" collection would have been, what, 30-35 years old at the time it was unearthed. So about the equivalent of somebody's 90s collection today...

Never read any other Eternity / Rosenberg-group titles besides PC, but maybe they were going for that full-color line before cutting back... enough that Dark Horse felt like calling them out? But otherwise, I do not remember this being a thing.

Yeah, I don't remember this at all. The only thing I can think of is _maybe_ Eternity Comics and that whole gaggle? The first 2 issues of Evan Dorkin's Pirate Corp$! were in color... very, very garish day-glo color (by Paty Cockrum!) before switching to B+W...

Marvel Universe serial killer obsessives: "What the media won't tell you about the Sin-Eater is that he was an ex-SHIELD agent, and was totally part of an LSD experiment, and that's what started the whole thing. There's no way they'll ever let that out.,"

So as bad as it is, I do find the Gerber story less offensive than Thomas', which basically puts Malcolm.X on equal moral ground with the Klan. Gerber was guilty of edgelord-ism, but the Thomas story is pretty reprehensible. (/end)

In Gerber's story, the black man was financing the group out of pure financial greed. When confronted, he just shrugs it off with "it was a good investment." And that bottom-line cynicism is typical of Gerber. (3/?)

A few years later, Steve Gerber used the group in Defenders, and this time the leader was a single black man (2/?)

Roy wrote a "Sons of the Serpent" story in Avengers, where the 2 leaders of the group were a white guy and a black guy... basically the ultimate in both sides-ism.

Original art page from Legion of Super-Heroes by Keith Giffen featuring Tenzil "Matter-Eater Lad" Kem and Brek "Polar Boy" Bannin, and the immortal dialogue exchange: "My God! He's eating that man's head!" "It's OK! I'm a senator!"
