iβll add that what substantively seems to annoy silver is the existence of people with principles
13.12.2025 23:01 β π 4640 π 359 π¬ 45 π 22Thatβs another option, however that would definitely require a state code change. The beauty of this option is that it can in theory be implemented right now without waiting for the legislature to act.
12.12.2025 17:30 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβm not a lawyer but I have workshopped this idea with a couple and they seem to agree that it is at least plausible that the County Assessor does have the authority to make this change. Itβs certainly worth trying, and if it requires state code changes we should still do it in my opinion
12.12.2025 17:20 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0By simply changing it so that only the portion of the property that is actually currently being used as a primary residence gets assessed at 55% you effectively raise property taxes on vacant units. The best part is that you could probably do this as an administrative change by the county assessor
12.12.2025 17:19 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Currently property taxes on primary residences are only assessed at 55% of the total value. This effectively means that businesses pay higher property tax than homeowners. Makes sense. But if a 100 unit apartment building has a single tenant then the entire complex gets assessed at only 55%.
12.12.2025 17:19 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I donβt think vacancy rates are that high across the board but it is still frustrating to see high vacancies and is often used as a reason to not build more housing. One potential solution is a kind of vacancy tax that can actually be implemented incredibly easily here in Utah! Hereβs how:

For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they wonβt be able to do, rather than what theyβd like to do.
If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldnβt Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.

New ad dropped. Letβs go! I'm running for Congress in Utah's 1st District to take on big corporations & the billionaires. To make housing & energy more affordable, fight for Medicare for All, protect our public lands, & to build a future for all of us.

We canβt keep doing politics as usual. Utahns struggle to pay for housing while Trump & the GOP Congress play games with our healthcare & victimize our communities. Itβs time for Democrats who will stand up & speak truth to power. Thatβs why Iβm running for Congress.

Very disappointed people endorsing McAdams right after he announces and before most candidates have even declared.
When Natalie Pinkney ran the vast majority of Dem electeds had already endorsed her opponents before she announced. But she still won. And we can do that again.
Progressive state Senator Nate Blouin strongly considering a run for new Utah Seat

The coordinated nature of thisβnone are facing voters in 2026βmeans that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.
Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
Like I fucking said.

Iβd also draft a statement from the state party calling on Schumer to resign as leader. #utpol

We got Trump 2.0 because voters didnt know how bad Trump is bad at governing because Dems intervened to help during Covid and Trump got credit.
Stop helping him.
