Well… it’s hard to deny things are CRAZY out in the world. We’re doing what we can to bring you little moments of joy throughout every week. From live music to dance parties to drag, burlesque, trivia, poetry, board games, bingo, and even the occasional history lesson, come and hide out with us ❤️

Just a heads up if you’re still planning to come out to our NYE party… the tickets have never sold as quickly as they are doing this year. We’re now at 75% sold.

Not the biggest crowd for Hang The DJ on Saturday but boy, was everybody ever down to dance! I’d take an enthusiastic crowd over a big crowd any day.

Our NYE party is now 40% sold. That’s much faster than usual so if you’re planning to come, please get those tickets so you’re not left out. We’re going to have the best time. It’s a 2025 guarantee.

Holy smokes. We just got Santa Conned hard. Nearly 400 Santas in a horde.

Did you know that we have a board game day at Dickens once a month? Gamer Sunday takes place tomorrow (Dec 8) from noon until 6 pm. People bring their own games or pick from our selection. There’s usually an RPG game or two, some Catan action, and lots of other stuff. You should check it out!

The first weekend of December brings us a killer metal show tonight and the Emo Nightmare Before Christmas is tomorrow for all your Emo dancefloor sing-your-heart-out needs.

GoGo Battles is back at Dickens tonight. If you haven’t seen this feminist comedy wrestling extravaganza before, you can’t even imagine what you’re missing. This is top form entertainment.

Working in an event space is kind of like living in two simultaneous timelines. You exist in the present, running the shows you have booked but you spend all your other time planning for shows in the future. It’s all about spring right now. Winter is so three months ago.

We’re just getting into a tricky time of year in the industry. Between Christmas parties and family events, it’s harder to get people to commit to going out. Do you find you go out to the bar more or less as the holiday season wears on?

We just put our NYE party on sale yesterday. It sells out every year. 80s vs 90s alternative and retro tracks on the dancfloor all night surrounded by the best people in Calgary. This is the best way to start 2025. Jump on Eventbrite and grab those tickets before they’re gone.

If anybody is interested in other related Dickens things. Terminus Festival runs every summer at the venue since 2012 and is our biggest undertaking of the year. Greycell is the DJ name under which I host events mostly at Dickens but increasingly in other spots and sometimes other cities as well.
