And to be clear, we never really used it in a negative way. We just said "Hey, you wanna play a shotgun adventure?" and one of us would run it. It was never real pressure, you know? Always fun for those of us who liked to DM.

Looks like they started doing that in 2005. And I think the original Delta Green was in the 90s. Since my gaming circle was saying shotgun game as early as 1985-1987, they're probably not connected. But that's a great observation! It probably has similar or same roots? I dunno.

As a kid, I often sat silently in my room listening to every sound as my parents fought, hoping it didn't get really bad. My own country has been making me feel like a kid again in the worst way possible.

I hope everyone is ok tonight. I want to keep hoping things will get better soon. I hope.

I definitely am not a typeface nerd. When I see Souvenir, it makes me feel like a kid again. Hard to think of fonts as being dated, but they totally can be.

I am curious about the influence of popular books within subcultures. In TTRPGs, AD&D left a big impact and those books used Future, which is a sans. I know for me I love Souvenir because it was used in the 1981 D&D basic books. But outside RPGs, I think Souvenir is kind of a joke?

This was just a curiosity question, mostly. For my published works, I've very often used Vollkorn. I latched onto it many years ago and it kind of stuck with me.

I'm mostly using Liberation Sans on my docs right now. Not necessarily for publication, just my own personal docs.

Wow. It's been part of my lexicon since I was 15. I guess it was just something in the coterie of gamers I was with. Probably my old friend DM picked it up from guys he learned the game from. I dunno. I've used it in blog posts and replies so I probably confused people once or twice.

For a moment I thought "head home and party" was new slang for doing dishes.

I think the term originates with "shotgun wedding", which is where a guy is forced to marry the girl he knocked up while her father holds a shotgun. The implication is you don't really have a choice, but you're a GM, so you gotta do it.

Is this common lingo or just regional?

Any other #TTRPG players say "shotgun game" for a sudden, low prep game session? Like your friend Willy comes over and says "hey run something tonight" and you had no plans to but you come up with something as if a shotgun is held against your head. I picked it up from other gamers in the 80s.

I wish I could comment on this whole Pokemon/OSR thing but Pokemon was 100% outside my personal experience bubble. I have no fondness for, interest in, malice toward, or opinion about it. I don't know what a Charizard is. But I love some Hodag art, so I support this.

I have fairly intimate knowledge of Ghost. I don't think there's any significant crossover between Ghost fans and Goat fans, honestly. And Goat seems to be notoriously secretive and intentionally mysterious, which is pretty cool and fun.

I love it

They do amazing covers, but their passion is original music. But nobody likes their originals at all. It's a sad tale.

The change is undetectable. No kind of forensics can reveal it because it's magic. It has ALWAYS BEEN. But memories aren't affected. We remember our F150 saying FORD on the tailgate, not FROD. But there it is... FROD. And on the website. And car lots. And redneck caps.
