An @ablawg.bsky.social post about how and why to decide if an interest in land is a legal or equitable interest, in Alberta's oil and gas context.

Not too technical. Helps if a reader likes the common law of property as our statutory land titles system is not applicable to Crown owned resources.

Listen to this. And then demand that your government impose sanctions on the state of Israel.

The State of Israel prefers the mayhem of airdrops to the coordinated delivery of aid.
Why?
Does it revel in the thought of recording desperate people fighting over those airdrops?
Whatever its reasons this is simply obscene.

The facts of genocide are clear.
What is truly amazing is the willingness of senior and legally accountable ministers of the State of Israel to ascribe to the intent to commit genocide.
Have they no memory of Nuremberg?

Alberta premier demands apology from fire-stricken town of Jasper | CBC News Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is demanding the fire-stricken town of Jasper apologize and retract a report criticizing her government for its role in last summer's devastating blaze.

Premier Smith sure knows how to dish it out, but, like most bullies, has a problem facing up to criticism.

Tribunal sides with disabled woman denied ultrasound at Calgary clinic An Alberta woman who filed a human rights complaint after being turned away at a clinic for an ultrasound says she hopes her recent win paves the way for better accommodations for disabled patients.

Some good news. Colleague Stephanie Chipeur won her adverse impact human rights claim, a claim that also resulted in the radiology clinic makung their servuces more accessible. The HR commissioner hearing the case was 2002 UCalgary Law alum, Dr. Erika Ringseis.

It didn't take a lot of time, and the question and suggested answers were meaningful -- about things we need to be thinking and talking about (i.e., nothing at all like a UCP survey).

Alberta & Ontario premiers oppose (seemingly with no awareness of history) the reintroduction of the First Nations Clean Water Act. Smith & Ford might as well be saying "let them boil water" by demanding its use for bitumen extraction & AI servers. Corruption, capitalism & cake for the premiers.

Albertans with disabilities who receive AISH will soon be up to $420/mth poorer thanks to the despicable UCP clawing back the Canada Disability Benefit (as no other province has), and sneakily imposing a de facto $220/mth rent increase.

The UCP's attack on cycling lanes in #YYC grows.
Cyclists, you should anticipate more abuse and intimidation (eg close passes and yelling) from vehicles (esp trucks in my experience) emboldened by this stance.
