A hulking, huge-headed sebecid with blunt, crushing teeth and a brick red head. It strides on powerful limbs, its heavy head and fat-packed tail drooping. It is shown beside a human silhouette, showing it to be roughly two meters tall and five meters long. (Art by Manusuchus)
A giant meiolaniid turtle with a cape formed from long, trailing carapaceal scutes. It has a crown of broad, chunky horns and a domed skull giving it a big-nosed look. It is shown alongside a human sihouette, showing it to be little over two meters in length. (Art by Manusuchus)
A New Age of Reptiles: Broadley's Bullcroc and Common Scrapeshell
Isolated from other continents for much of the Cenozoic, South America has developed a degree of biotic endemism only outdone by Australia. In the scrubland and semidesert in the continent's south, giant reptiles abound. (1/13)

Close up of a rough-scaled, tortoisey face with a high domed nose.
Close up of powerful looking reptile jaws lined with blunted, crushing teeth.
A very tiny sneak peak of tomorrowβs New Age of Reptiles thread, featuring art by @manusuchus.bsky.social!
This is going to be a special one with some of my very favourite animals from the project.

A small, long-limbed alligator-like crocodylian with a banded green and cream pattern. It has a long tail with tall rows of scutes on the tail forming a crest. A small row of raised scutes on the neck form another, smaller crest. It has large eyes and a blunt, bulldog-like skull. The silhouette of a hand can be seen beside it, showing it to be similar in size to a large iguana.
A New Age of Reptiles: The Banded Alliguana
One of the most commonly sighted tetrapods in the waterways and flooded forests of the Gulf Coast, the Banded Alliguana is part of a great radiation of plant-eating alligatorines found throughout the Americas in the New Age of Reptiles. (1/10)

An enormous, short-limbed crocodylian with a swooping, streamlined body. It has a long and powerfully muscled tail topped by rows of large scales that create a vertically oriented tail fin. It has robust jaws with interlocking, conical teeth and tiny eyes. It has numerous scars across its skin, and several of its tail fins are torn or otherwise damaged. A size comparison with a man's silhouette shows it be to around 14 meters in total length.
A New Age of Reptiles: The Raja Gharial
In a world where whales and other marine mammals never developed, reptiles have repeatedly taken to the seas with great success. These oceanic invasions have produced a staggering diversity of marine reptiles rivaling that of the preceding Mesozoic. (1/13)

And last but not least, an enormous thank you to @manusuchus.bsky.social for helping me bring this concept to life. Expect to see his work as a regular fixture of A New Age of Reptiles going forward. Give him a follow so you don't miss out on any of his excellent palaeoart! (13/13)

Here is a little preview of something that, I hope, will end up contributing to the conservation of my favorite species, the orinoco crocodile.
looking forward to sharing more about this soon ;)

The estimate of 100 specimens (reproductive adults) may be too low (probably in Colombia, but in Venezuela the species is close to 300 adult specimens in the wild). Anyway, there is still a lot of work to be done and your illustration helps to bring attention to the species, which is much needed π₯

Something for the #worldcrocodileday πππ
The orinoco crocodile is one of my favorite species but also extremelly endangered, its estimated that less than 100 individuals remain in the wild. It hurts my soul to its core seeing these species on the brink of extinction...

The image above is just a preview render, but to give you some expectation of how the physical print will look, here's the prints I sold at last year's TetZooCon. Both the Tyrannosaurus and Diplodocus will be available in 1/40 scale.

As I do every year, Ive tried to make a small contribution to this day: My favorite animal in the world, the critically endangered CaimΓ‘n llanero (C. intermedius), a species to which I am determined to dedicate my life to conserve.

Pretty cool paper. Basically, "Gharialis" curvirostris was named some 150 years ago by Richard Lydekker based on fossil material from the Bugti Hills of Pakistan and has very much been stuck in this state since then.

Interesting reconstruction decisions; what references of other sebecosuchians have you taken (Besides the holotype of B.arveloi)?

Probably the last large Sebecidae to inhabit this world before the extinction of the family during late Miocene (Or even during early Pliocene if we take into consideration possible relict island populations in the Antilles).

WIP skeletal diagram of Deinosuchus hatcheri with out any soft tissue. Scale bar is 1 meter long.
Here's an update on my Deinosuchus skeletal. Nearly all the bones are done, just gotta finish the skull detailing and the osteoderms. Also the back leg. But theoretically in the home stretch. #paleontology #Deinosuchus #paleoart
