If you do go down the route of buying a vintage Yamaha SG, check to see if it has the coil tapping! That way you’re getting the jangle and twang of a Telecaster right through to the full fat crunch otherwise found on a Les Paul, plus various points inbetween. Guitar nerd message ends!

The best guitar I’ve ever owned, a 1977 Yamaha SG1000. Absurdly versatile and a dream to play, it’s no wonder these guitars were a favourite of John McGeoch.
