We are working on a toolkit and guide for how to handle drought conditions regeneratively. Deserts have been converted with some of these approaches. The west is also facing severe drought because of a low snow pack, many of us are.

The good news is that there is a lot that can be done about it.

THREAD: Are you looking for ways to improve landowner adoption of better management practices that:
1. benefit biodiversity, climate resilience, water quality, and other valuable ecosystem services?
AND
2. generate economic and business benefits for landowners?

What challenges are you facing? >

Got to tour his museum at Tuskegee University a few years ago. What an amazing inventor, philosopher and scientist! He was practicing systems thinking in innovative ways back then. A deeply intriguing man whose work should be more widely known.

This has been an ongoing problem that is exacerbated by ignoring it in favor of more acute and obvious problems. We all need water though.

How to protect your tropical plants from freezes We’ve had a few freezes in parts of Central/North Florida so far this year and it looks like we’re going to have more.

Very cold tomorrow. In Florida, people are prepping to save their plants. I wrote a short article on some things we do to protect ours. If you run sprinklers, don't turn them off until most ice melts. Follow up article on how to aid plants hit by frost coming! substack.com/@permalife/p...

Discussion about mini-split heaters in cold weather. Best brands, best ways to operate. Thoughts?

Bare soil? Nature sends weeds.
Low fertility? Here come nitrogen-fixers.
Gaps in the canopy? Expect pioneer trees.
It’s not random β€” it’s repair. We can either fight it or design with it.

If you’re in FL, January is one of our favorite months to garden. Cooler temps mean less stress, and the greens absolutely thrive.
Here’s a quick planting guide for what you can grow right now.

My experience here has been 100% positive and productive. Followers and engagement have increased much faster than on Twitter/X. Quality of my feed has been great too. I've had to play with curation but it wasn't hard.

Too many homes are being rebuilt with the same vulnerabilities.
This is also true of homes in the path of hurricanes, floods, etc.

We're publishing a series of guides on how to rebuild not only more resiliently, but more regeneratively. Find out more here: pcx.earth/disaster

This cute little guy is a Rotund-Resin Bee, a solitary native bee. This one is on our chaste tree; I've also seen them on our catnip (beloved by many native pollinators).
I love seeing them fly around, flashing their colors and their pollen - stored on their belly. Magical little fairy dust bees.

#Planttrees always, but also make every tree count. Biodiverse tree islands, native pioneer species, succession management (supporting ecosystems as they mature) and other nature based techniques increase benefits and survival rates!

Stacking functions is a key principle of permaculture. When we design systems to produce more than one function, especially when working with nature to do so, this can multiply the yield of the system beyond expectation.
