A pet peeve of mine is when a creature in a horror movie is feeding on a fresh kill and leaves it to attack someone else. That's not how feeding works.
I personally would never abandon a sandwich I'm already eating to chase one I may or may not catch. And yes, in this analogy, sandwiches can run.

Vulnerability. That's an important point. I think a lot of people afraid of "being cringe" are actually afraid of being vulnerable. Years ago I watched this TED talk by Brené Brown, all about vulnerability, and it really changed my perspective.
