There's a parallel there! I once interviewed a biologist for a climate piece. She seemed almost optimistic. I asked her why, and she basically said that she stayed very motivated to do the work because we know what needs to be done, and every part of it that we actually do will make a difference.

For Your Consideration: On BAFTA and the Indifference of Antiblackness Let us consider the scene again: Delroy Lindo and Michael B. Jordan present an award at the BAFTA ceremony. As they read from the teleprompter, they hear John Davidson involuntarily scream out the n-...

β€œTo not acknowledge the unique effect of a racial slur is a form of indifference to the suffering of others. The problem of being indifferent to the suffering of black folk while also imploring folks to have empathy for Davidson cannot be understated.” β€” @nubluesnick.bsky.social

Yes it’s Valentine’s Day. But it’s also the chosen birthday of Frederick Douglass who was born in 1818 on a plantation in Talbot County, Maryland. He escaped from slavery & rose to become the most eloquent and forceful voice for the abolition of slavery & for Black voting rights in the U.S.

Analysis: China’s CO2 emissions have now been β€˜flat or falling’ for 21 months - Carbon Brief China’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions fell by 1% in the final quarter of 2025, likely securing a decline of 0.3% for the full year as a whole.

As the US doubles down on fossil fuels and blocks wind & solar installations, its emissions are ticking up.

In contrast, China's emissions appear to have peaked. In the last 2 yrs, they installed more new solar energy each year than the U.S. has in its entire history.

*this is a carpool moment from a young genX-er raised by civil service & public service people. I suspect leadership will emerge, but climate warming has accelerated the clock on everything. US moral leadership was always broken and late and self-interested, but it grew into something. Less time now
