We’ve already spent more on this war than the annual budget of the National School Breakfast Program that feeds 16 million kids every school day.

Hegseth just said it’s none of the American people’s business whether we have “boots on the ground” in Iran.
Actually, the American people absolutely deserve to not only know where we are bombing, but also where our ground troops are fighting.
“That’s the way it is.”
“So it goes.”
Ever since the first Iraq War, Pentagon war briefings have repeatedly and grossly fetishized the destructive power of our weapons.

Endless wars? … money is no object.
Feeding hungry American kids … sorry, we have a deficit to worry about and we certainly can’t make billionaires pay their fare share of taxes to pay for that.
Glorifying war — as opposed to explaining the need for national defense activities that are sometimes used reluctantly — is fascist.

I assume that Hegseth had no idea that he just quoted the Notorious B.I.G.
That’s still appalling though, on a number of levels.
War isn’t a video game.
In the real world, multitudes of people die, most of whom are innocent civilians, including children and the elderly.
It is likely that the bloody U.S. intervention in Iran will actually harm democratic opposition movements there, giving the government of Iran more supposed justification to violently crush them.

The Ancient Greek statesman Pericles argued that no leaders should be able to push for war unless their children were in the army.
I don’t think Trump should wage war unless he’s willing to send Barron to fight it.
Most of those supposedly Leftie accounts who are still incensed that Biden and Harris did not do enough to rein in Bibi, are strangely silent on Trump actually teaming up with Bibi to launch a brand new war.

While I didn’t agree with either of our two wars in Iraq, both were authorized by Congress after robust national debates (albeit the debate over the second Iraq War was based on false information.)
We shouldn’t be going to war on the basis of one man’s whims, with no Congressional or public debate
How many lives and tax dollars will — again — be wasted on a war waged on the basis of lies?
One life, one dollar, would be too many. But if it be far, far worse than that.
I support democracy in Venezuela, Iran, and everywhere. But unilateral, oil-focused, wars do not advance democracy.

Just a reminder: Venezuela is still being run by the same dictatorial regime as before Trump attacked them. The only real change is that we are not stealing their oil.
So it’s not a stretch to believe that our Iran attacks are also about war, not democracy.
