Ukraine’s General Staff says its forces successfully struck Russia’s Kapustin Yar military test range, a site from which Moscow has launched Oreshnik medium-range missiles at Ukraine.
In January 2026, Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out a series of strikes on the Russian Ministry of Defense’s strategic Kapustin Yar range, causing significant damage, according to the General Staff . Details were published the morning of January 8:
Updated information says the attacks damaged a technical facility that services medium-range ballistic missiles, an assembly building, and a logistics warehouse at the Kapustin Yar range.
The General Staff noted that Russia has twice used this range during the war to launch its Oreshnik medium-range missiles at Ukraine, making it a high-priority target for Kyiv.
Ukraine’s military also reported several overnight strikes on January 8. Near occupied Rozovka in the Zaporizhzhia region, a supply warehouse of Russia’s armed forces was hit. Near Krasnogorsk, also in Zaporizhzhia, the target was a concentration of Russian personnel.
In addition, Ukrainian forces struck a Russian UAV command post near Novoekonomichne in Donbas.
Russian losses from these attacks are being assessed, the General Staff said, adding that Ukraine intends to continue systematic strikes to degrade Russia’s combat potential.
