Having been a qualifier judge for a few years, I thought Iβd enter #Tableau #IronViz this year!
High Times, High Companions, and High Spirits is my (very high level) story about the changing tastes of cocktails.
I leant into my strengths and drew everything with map layers too!
#DataViz
Takeaways this time:
- there were a lot more drives all round this week. Not sure whether last week was first week nerves?
- Giants @ Dallas, wow. Obviously.
- the Lions didn't just put the Bears to the sword, they also used a lot of plays to do it.
- Browns @ Ravens was a real game of two halves.
Week 2 #NFL drive chart #DataViz!
Did a few visual tweaks and had to deal with random things like whatever the heck the Steelers did with that Seattle kick-off.
If anyone has any tips on designing headers and borders then please let me know. I'm terrible at that bit!

Go Titans! (I donβt have a team myself but I did see them against the Ravens in London a couple of years ago). Iβm hoping Cam Ward can bring a bit of pizzazz back for you after your recent slide!

Couple of things that stood out to me:
- Titans @ Broncos looks really broken up
- Dolphins @ Colts by contrast is really simple (makes sense with Dan Jonesβ record setting feats)
- Didnβt realise the Bills had missed so many 2pt attempts! Makes it feel less close somehow
The #NFL is back baby!
And Iβve updated my drive chart #DataViz π to show the whole week in one go! π

Thought I'd try something very different tonight so here is my first experiment with QGIS - a neon outline of the Isle of Man and its famous TT course. I'm very pleased with how it turned out as a first quick go.

Listened to that this morning as it happens. Always interesting!

Every week, myself and a couple of others do a round-up of some of the best #SportsViz weβve seen.
The focus is on the #DataFam but we sprinkle in other things to share inspiration and cool stuff.
Use the #SportsVizSunday hashtag if you want to be featured!

Incredibly proud for my work to be recognized in the 2024 Information is Beautiful Awards Longlist Showcase!
Turns out I really like my backgrounds to be on the white-beige-brown colour scale.

Itβs always surprising how different a team can be in preseason compared to the regular season. So many things kept under hats for the competitive games I suppose

So cool!
If a team has high xG but low goals, is that more likely to be from saves/blocks or missing the goal entirely? Iβm thinking about the size of hockey goals compared to football goals, but I havenβt watched very much hockey to know
This is a cool way to see whether a team won through overwhelming firepower, clinical finishing, being the least worst, or some combination of the above! #DataViz

Bar chart showing the number of days since teams lost a Premier League home game by two or more goals. Most teams are on less than 100 days (for Man City it's been less than 24 hours, lol). Excluding games played during lockdown, Liverpool have gone 3,467 days since losing by more than one goal at Anfield. Including games played with no fans, it has been 1,465 days for Liverpool, more than four times as long as their nearest rivals (Arsenal on 316 days).

Yeah me too. I assume that they didnβt have much confidence in the run against the eagles massive D line but it made it easier for the eagles to defend knowing it was likely to come through the air.
That was the moment I thought it was over too - they had Mahomesβ number!
Absolutely brutal. I made a drive chart visualisation for it and it doesnβt pull any punches!

While both teams had impressive records and tore through the playoffs, not all units were elite. The Philadelphia Eagles have the advantage in three phases of the game.

Something that does need fixing is the colour pairings, as some are too similar for the same fixture. I'm working on creating some better ones but haven't got there yet.

Finally got my #NFL #DataViz dashboards up!
The first does single games like my original post below, and the second one does these whole season reviews which incorporate the single games too. And I added a little bit of drive info too.
Just in time for the #SuperBowl #DataFam! Links below π
Cheers Tom! It was important to be that they made sense to people who didnβt know much about NFL as well as those who watched a lot, so Iβm glad that they meant something to you!
