It’s a beefy articulated tank of a beast: heavy and strong-looking claws and long legs emerging from under a roundish domed carapace, with a vaguely comical head segment and two long antennae amid all that. Colored in shades of brown and blue with linear striations along all its limbs and spots on its carapace. A speech balloon with a very long tail that wraps around one of the crab’s legs reads ‘maybe it will happen today’. You should look up some coconut crab images soon.

A blackwater photo of Chtenopteryx squid. It has translucent skin, but it is covered in brilliant orange chromatophores, which completely cover the mantle, most of the head, the upper arms and lower fins. Its arms and tentacles are neatly spread out. Its fins have fin ribs at regular intervals, making it look like a comb or a ruffle chip.
I will never get over how beautiful the ribbed fins of Chtenopteryx are.
Truly, they are nature's perfect ruffle chips.
