To celebrate finishing the 4th print edition of Broomistega & Thrinaxodon, I would like to share the complete comic with you. It's about two very different Triassic animals at the end of the world 1/7 #paleoart #sciart #furryart

really tired of conversations about how we need to get people to spend more time offline that don't acknowledge that one of the reasons people ARE online is their access needs aren't being met in physical spaces. This is especially true for queer people and disabled people.

This may be the oldest β€˜butthole’ imprint on Earth Fossils show exceptionally rare evidence of a cloacal ventβ€”the slit that most vertebrates use to excrete, have sex and lay eggβ€”which could shed light on the evolution of the orifice

Please enjoy the single most amazing quote from a paleontologist I have ever read: β€œThe animal literally cemented itselfβ€”and its nether regionsβ€”into eternal history like the movie stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.” πŸ§ͺ www.scientificamerican.com/article/see-...

In a vast chamber lined with square concrete panels, a woman grips an iron ring to hang suspended in a sideways T. A taut chain extends from the ring on a diagonal down to another metal loop where she anchors her bare feet. Gravity tugs on her fiery orange hair as she reaches down to touch a broad band of mist. The hood of her loose white top spills down as do both sleeves, one bunching at the shoulder to expose her armβ€”her torso prevents it from falling fartherβ€”while unobstructed the other sleeve billows loosely. There is some curvature to the wall behind her, which tapers inward at the top. Boards are tacked in staggered lines extending ladder-like up the wall. A grungy tactile delight, the place looks weathered with tattered cloth draping the concrete in places. A variety of openings are covered by rusty grates or metal plates.

THE REACH (1999)
Acrylic on Canvas - 48” x 30”

Almost a Lumen painting, in which figures are trying to work their way out of enclosed spaces and get into the light.

I used a model for this one and it was quite difficult for her to take this pose and hold it long enough to capture the gesture. 1/3

Watercolor-based illustration of an angelic monster inspired by the dinosaur-like bird, the cassowary. The head of the creature comes to a point on top with a beak that spreads out into mirrored head crests, with three piercing eyes set in the center. Cascading down the blue neck is a branching red wattle which splits around the back of the head, creating a sort of halo. The creature has minimal body, which is a mass of purple-black feathers fanning out with four singular claws evenly spaced.

This beautiful beast will need to be revisited after the challenge, because I must discover what happens when it opens that unholy beak. 😱

I'm writing one book, yes, but what about second book? Book on the side that doesn't really have a plot yet? Secret book I won't tell anyone about for a while? Book that persists only in my imaginings as I fall asleep every night? You've heard about those, haven't you?

Calling AI "slop" has been one of the most effective instances of the public rebranding a product and it pisses them off.

A digital illustration of the world’s largest terrestrial arthropod, the Coconut Crab. It’s a beefy articulated tank of a beast: heavy and strong-looking claws and long legs emerging from under a roundish domed carapace, with a vaguely comical head segment and two long antennae amid all that. Colored in shades of brown and blue with linear striations along all its limbs and spots on its carapace. A speech balloon with a very long tail that wraps around one of the crab’s legs reads β€˜maybe it will happen today’. You should look up some coconut crab images soon.

In the centre is a digital painting of Cyrus, a muscular Black man with long red dreadlocks and beard, kissing Niko, a light-skinned slim man with long wavy navy hair, underwater. They are literally by a bright sun above the water. Text above and below read, "How I Approach Lighting, by Oliver Niko," on a painterly pink and blue background.

Lighting is often praised as the highlight of my work and is something I love dearly. Continue onto the thread to read about how I've reached this point and what I consider to achieve such lighting!

A blackwater photo of Chtenopteryx squid. It has translucent skin, but it is covered in brilliant orange chromatophores, which completely cover the mantle, most of the head, the upper arms and lower fins. Its arms and tentacles are neatly spread out. Its fins have fin ribs at regular intervals, making it look like a comb or a ruffle chip.

I will never get over how beautiful the ribbed fins of Chtenopteryx are.

Truly, they are nature's perfect ruffle chips.
